Enhancement of Near Cloaking for the Full Maxwell Equations

SJR Q1SIAM Journal on Applied Mathematics

Recently published methods for the quasi-static limit of the Helmholtz equation is extended to consider near cloaking for the full Maxwell equations. Effective near cloaking structures are described for the electromagnetic scattering problem at a fixed frequency. These structures are, prior to using the transformation optics, layered structures designed so that their first scattering coefficients vanish. As a result, any target inside the cloaking region has near-zero scattering cross section fo

The goal of this paper is to advance the development of wave-guiding subwavelength crystals by developing designs whose properties are stable with respect to imperfections in their construction. In particular, we make use of a locally resonant subwavelength structure, composed of a chain of high-contrast resonators, to trap waves at deep subwavelength scales. We first study an infinite chain of subwavelength resonator dimers and define topological quantities that capture the structure's wave tra

The aim of this paper is to provide a mathematical theory for understanding the mechanism behind the double-negative refractive index phenomenon in bubbly fluids. The design of double-negative metamaterials generally requires the use of two different kinds of subwavelength resonators, which may limit the applicability of double-negative metamaterials. Herein we rely on media that consists of only a single type of resonant element, and show how to turn the acoustic metamaterial with a single nega

Spectral properties of the Neumann–Poincaré operator and cloaking by anomalous localized resonance for the elasto-static system

We first investigate spectral properties of the Neumann–Poincaré (NP) operator for the Lamé system of elasto-statics. We show that the elasto-static NP operator can be symmetrized in the same way as that for the Laplace operator. We then show that even if elasto-static NP operator is not compact even on smooth domains, it is polynomially compact and its spectrum on two-dimensional smooth domains consists of eigenvalues that accumulate to two different points determined by the Lamé constants. We

SJR Q1SIAM Journal on Control and Optimization

The aim of this paper is to propose a new regularized optimal control formulation for recovering an extended inclusion from boundary measurements. Our approach provides an optimal representation of the shape of the inclusion. It guarantees local Lipschitz stability for the reconstruction problem. Some numerical experiments are performed to demonstrate the validity and the limitations of the proposed reconstruction method.

High‐order exceptional points and enhanced sensing in subwavelength resonator arrays

SJR Q1Studies in Applied Mathematics

Abstract Systems exhibiting degeneracies known as exceptional points have remarkable properties with powerful applications, particularly in sensor design. These degeneracies are formed when eigenstates coincide, and the remarkable effects are exaggerated by increasing the order of the exceptional point (i.e., the number of coincident eigenstates). In this work, we use asymptotic techniques to study ‐symmetric arrays of many subwavelength resonators and search for high‐order asymptotic exceptiona

In this paper, we derive an impedance boundary condition to approximate the optical scattering effect of an array of plasmonic nanoparticles mounted on a perfectly conducting plate. We show that at some resonant frequencies the impedance blows up, allowing for a significant reduction of the scattering from the plate. Using the spectral properties of a Neumann-Poincaré type operator, we investigate the dependency of the impedance with respect to changes in the nanoparticle geometry and configurat
