15Severe atopic dermatitis (AD) is not a localized cutaneous disease, but a systemic disease that often accompanies comorbidities. In this nationwide population-based study, we aimed to analyze the prevalence of severe AD and chronic systemic diseases in Koreans aged ≤ 20 years between 2011 and 2019 using the data from the Korean Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service. Total AD and severe AD were defined according to the International Classification of Diseases-10 code L20. In children age
Background: Oral immunotherapy (OIT) can impose psychological burdens on patients and their parents due to the necessary preparations and repeated adverse reactions. Objective: To investigate changes in quality of life (QoL) and psychological burden in parents of children receiving OIT for food allergy (FA). Methods: Children aged 3‐13 years with FA were enrolled. Parents were asked to fill out the Korean versions of the Food Allergy Quality of Life-Parental Burden (FAQL-PB), the Korean versions
In day-to-day living, individuals are exposed to various environmentally hazardous substances that have been associated with diverse diseases. Exposure to air pollutants can occur during breathing, posing a considerable risk to those with environmental health vulnerabilities. Among vulnerable individuals, maternal exposure can negatively impact the mother and child in utero. The developing fetus is particularly vulnerable to environmentally hazardous substances, with potentially greater implicat
Neonatal diabetes mellitus (NDM) is a rare disease that occurs at less than 6 months of age and is presumably caused by a mutation in the gene that affects pancreatic beta-cell function. Approximately 80% of NDM cases reveal a known genetic mutation, and mutations in potassium inwardly rectifying channel subfamily J member 11 (KCNJ11) and ABCC8 affecting the pancreatic beta-cell adenosine triphosphatesensitive potassium channel may be treated with oral sulfonylurea. Early recognition of mutation
BACKGROUND: Recent human and animal studies have demonstrated that Nod-like receptor family, pyrin domain-containing 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome is closely involved in the development of allergic diseases. OBJECTIVE: To identify the mechanism underlying the activation of NLRP3 inflammasome signaling pathway in an ovalbumin (OVA)-induced allergic rhinitis (AR) mice model and to validate the effect of a specific inhibitor of the NLRP3, MCC950. METHODS: Mice were divided into three groups and each group
Purpose:We aimed to evaluate the effects of baked egg and milk diets on the prognosis of immunoglobulin E (IgE)-mediated food allergy in young children. Methods: In this retrospective study, we enrolled children under 36 months of age who were diagnosed with egg or milk allergy between January 2020 and July 2023.The consumption group underwent oral food challenges with baked egg or milk, and was instructed to include baked eggs and milk in their diet for at least 6 months. The control group, match
BACKGROUND: This study aimed to comprehensively characterize the gut microbiome and identify individual and grouped gut microbes associated with food allergy (FA) using 16S rRNA gene sequencing. METHODS: Fecal samples were collected from children with IgE-mediated FA and from sex- and age-matched controls. The V3-V4 variable regions of the 16S rRNA gene of the gut microbiome were profiled using next-generation sequencing (Illumina, USA). Bacterial species richness, intracommunity diversity, and
Pediatric atopic dermatitis (AD) shows distinct clinical characteristics compared to adult AD, suggesting unique inflammatory profiles that may influence disease prognosis and treatment response. We aimed to identify unique immune signatures of pediatric AD and investigate the differences between pediatric and adult AD patients. Nine pediatric (6-16 years) and 12 adult (20-60 years) were enrolled. PBMCs were collected from AD patients and age- and sex-matched healthy controls (HCs). Transcriptom
HE-OIT was associated with systemic immune cell transcriptomic changes, suggesting that its efficacy derives from these immune alterations.

Abstract To investigate the effect of early feeding type on gut microbiota composition and atopic dermatitis (AD) development in cesarean-delivered infants, and to evaluate whether probiotic-supplemented formula can mitigate microbial and immunologic disadvantages associated with cesarean delivery. A total of 129 infants delivered by cesarean section were enrolled and classified into three groups: Group A (exclusively breastfed), Group B (fed standard formula), and Group C (fed probiotic-fortifi
