SJR Q1Stem Cells Translational MedicineOA

Abstract We previously demonstrated that transplanting mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) improved recovery from brain injury induced by severe intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) in newborn rats. To assess the safety and feasibility of MSCs in preterm infants with severe IVH, we performed a phase I dose-escalation clinical trial. The first three patients received a low dose of MSCs (5 × 106 cells/kg), and the next six received a high dose (1 × 107 cells/kg). We assessed adverse outcomes, including mor

SJR Q1Cellular MicrobiologyOA

Recently, we demonstrated that intratracheal transplantation of human umbilical cord blood- derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) attenuates Escherichia (E) coli- induced acute lung injury primarily by down- modulating inflammation and enhancing bacterial clearance iQn mice. This study was performed to elucidate the mechanism underlying the antibacterial effects of MSCs. The growth of E. coli in vitro was significantly inhibited only by MSCs or their conditioned medium with bacterial preconditio

SJR Q1The Journal of PediatricsOA

OBJECTIVE: To determine whether a nonintervention approach for treating hemodynamically significant patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) is associated with decreased mortality and/or morbidity compared with a mandatory closure approach in extremely low birth weight infants. STUDY DESIGN: We reviewed the medical records of 178 infants of 23-26 weeks' gestational age with PDA, requiring ventilator treatment, and with hemodynamically significant PDA ≥2 mm in size. Mandatory closure was used during period

SJR Q1PLoS ONEOA

This study aimed to determine the natural course of patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) with noninterventional conservative management and whether the presence and/or prolonged duration of hemodynamically significant (HS) PDA increased the risk of mortality and morbidities in extremely preterm (EPT) infants. We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of EPT infants born at 23-28 weeks of gestation (n = 195) from January 2011 to June 2014, when PDA was managed with noninterventional conservative

Conservative Non-intervention Approach for Hemodynamically Significant Patent Ductus Arteriosus in Extremely Preterm Infants
Se In Sung, Yun Sil Chang, So Yoon Ahn, Heui Seung Jo, Misun Yang, Won Soon Park
SJR Q2Frontiers in PediatricsOA

While persistent patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) in preterm infants has been known to be associated with increased mortality and morbidities including bronchopulmonary dysplasia, and necrotizing enterocolitis, there is minimal evidence supporting their causal relationships, and most traditional medical and/or surgical treatments have failed to show improvements in these outcomes. As such, the pendulum has swung toward the conservative non-intervention approach for the management of persistent PDA

The Youngest Survivor with Gestational Age of 215/7 Weeks
Se In Sung, So Yoon Ahn, Hye Soo Yoo, Yun Sil Chang, Won Soon Park
SJR Q2Journal of Korean Medical ScienceOA

The decision whether or not to resuscitate extremely low gestational age (GA) infants is recommended to be individualized according to antenatal counseling with parents, neonatologists, and obstetricians. A GA of 22⁰/₇-23⁶/₇ weeks is generally considered as the lower end of the range where infants can be candidates for selective resuscitation. Below this lower end of periviable gestation, resuscitation is usually not considered and survivors are rarely reported. To date, the youngest survivor is
