Short-term exposure to TCs does not appear to increase the risk of dental abnormalities in children aged 0-7 and 0-12 years. Restrictions on the use of TCs in children aged 8-12 years, in some countries, may warrant consideration.

SJR Q2Frontiers in PediatricsOA

Objectives Understanding the characteristics of the pubertal growth spurt in Korean children and adolescents can serve as crucial foundational data for researching puberty and growth-related disorders. This study aims to estimate the key parameters of pubertal growth, specifically the age and magnitude of the pubertal growth spurt, utilizing longitudinal data from a cohort of Korean children and adolescents. Methods This study used mixed longitudinal height data from a cohort of Korean elementar

Big data-based reference centiles for body composition in Korean children and adolescents: a cross-sectional study
Dohyun Chun, Seo Jung Kim, Junghwan Suh, Jihun Kim
SJR Q2BMC PediatricsOA

BACKGROUND: The changes in body composition during puberty not only contribute to the differences in body composition between adult males and females but also have associations with growth problems and metabolic disorders, including obesity. Therefore, understanding the changes in body composition during the pubertal period and analyzing reference values based on race and gender are essential research resources. The objective of this study was to generate reference centiles for body composition

PURPOSE: Glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) is commonly used as a monitoring tool in diabetes. Due to the potential influence of insulin resistance (IR), HbA1c level may fluctuate over a person's lifetime. This study explores the long-term tracking of HbA1c level in individuals diagnosed with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) from infancy to early adulthood. METHODS: The HbA1c levels in 275 individuals (121 males, 43.8%) diagnosed with T1DM were tracked for an average of 9.4 years. The distribution o

Bioadaptive liquid-infused multifunctional fibers for long-term neural recording via BDNF stabilization and enhanced neural interaction

Brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) enable direct communication between the brain and computers. However, their long-term functionality remains limited due to signal degradation caused by acute insertion trauma, chronic foreign body reaction (FBR), and biofouling at the device-tissue interface. To address these challenges, we introduce a multifunctional surface modification strategy called targeting-specific interaction and blocking nonspecific adhesion (TAB) coating for flexible fiber, achieving a

Relationship between short stature at 3 years old and height, weight, and body mass index changes for 6 years after birth: a retrospective, nationwide, population-based study of children born 2011–2014 in Korea
Seo Jung Kim, Ju Hyun Jin, In Hyuk Chung
SJR Q1Annals of Pediatric Endocrinology & MetabolismOA

PURPOSE: Height at 3 years of age, when catch-up growth based on birth history is completed, is considered a major prognostic factor for predicting short stature, underweight, and growth faltering. However, too few large-scale studies have followed and analyzed height, weight, and body mass index (BMI) changes in children whose stature was short at 3 years of age. This study followed and compared the growth parameters (height, weight, and BMI) of children with short stature at 3 years of age and

SJR Q1Annals of Pediatric Endocrinology & MetabolismOA

PURPOSE: We aimed to compare the final adult height (FAH) of male patients with central precocious puberty (CPP) after treatment with a gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist (GnRHa). Specifically, we compared FAH with the target height (TH) and the predicted adult height (PAH) before and after GnRHa treatment to quantify height gain and identify predictive factors. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 92 male patients with CPP and known FAH after GnRHa treatment at the De

SJR Q2Journal of the Endocrine SocietyOA

Abstract Disclosure: J. Yoo: None. S. Kim: None. H. Chae: None. Introduction: The Modified Atkins Diet (MAD), as a type of Ketogenic diet (KD) therapy, is utilized as a treatment for intractable epilepsy. Compared to the classic KD, it has a lower ratio of fat to carbohydrate plus protein, resulting in higher compliance among patients. Dyslipidemia is known as a major complication of KD, but when it comes to MAD, there is a scarcity of long-term studies investigating lipid level alterations in c

Objective: Children with growth hormone deficiency (GHD) and born small for gestational age (SGA) can lead to significant growth and metabolic issues. Growth hormone (GH) treatment is known to promote linear growth and improve metabolic parameters in these patients. However, the long-term metabolic effects of GH treatment in children with GHD and SGA require fu

SJR Q2Journal of the Endocrine SocietyOA

Abstract Disclosure: S. Kim: None. S. Kim: None. J. Suh: None. Introduction: In addition to adulthood, pediatricians have noted a growing emphasis on research concerning sarcopenic obesity. Studies in this field have expanded beyond basic BMI-related inquiries, actively delving into investigations based on body fat mass (BFM) and fat-free mass (FFM). However, limited research has systematically analyzed the acquisition of body composition during children and adolescence based on longitudinal dat

Purpose: Children with growth hormone deficiency (GHD) and small for gestational age (SGA) have major growth and metabolic issues. Growth hormone (GH) treatment promotes linear growth and improves metabolic parameters. However, the long-term metabolic effects of this treatment remain unclear. This study aimed to investigate metabolic changes after GH treatment in children with GHD and SGA. Methods: The study population included 1,788 patients: 1,364 with GHD, 318 with SGA, and 106 with GHD and S
