Pathophysiology of Cardiorenal Syndrome and Use of Diuretics and Ultrafiltration as Volume Control
Sung Yoon Lim, Sejoong Kim
SJR Q2Korean Circulation JournalOA

Acute or chronic dysfunction of the heart or kidneys can cause dysfunction of other organs. This interaction between the heart and kidneys is characterized as cardiorenal syndrome (CRS). Recently, a preponderance of data indicated that venous congestion plays an important role in the combination of renal and cardiac diseases. This review aims to focus on the pathophysiology of venous congestion that leads to renal impairment in heart failure and the use of diuretics or ultrafiltration as deconge

Although low serum bicarbonate level is known to be associated with adverse outcomes in patients with chronic kidney injury, it is unclear whether low serum bicarbonate level is associated with the development of acute kidney injury (AKI). The purpose of our study was to determine whether serum bicarbonate levels at admission could be a risk factor for AKI development and mortality in hospitalised patients. We retrospectively enrolled 17,320 adult patients who were admitted to the academic teach

SJR Q1NutrientsOA

Malnutrition in critically ill patients is closely linked with clinical outcomes. During acute inflammatory states, nutrition cannot reverse the loss of body cell mass completely. Studies on nutritional screening and strategy considering metabolic changes have not yet been conducted. We aimed to identify nutrition strategies using the modified Nutrition Risk in the Critically ill (mNUTIRC) score. Nutrition support data, laboratory nutrition indicators, and prognosis indices were prospectively co

SJR Q3MedicineOA

ABSTRACT: The incidence of pulmonary nontuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) infection is high in patients with underlying lung disease such as bronchiectasis. Although previous studies have reported many risk factors contributing to the development of NTM-lung disease (LD), only a few reports on the relationship of the characteristics of patients, such as body mass index (BMI), skeletal mass, and fat mass, with NTM-LD have been published. We aimed to investigate the association between these paramet

Sung Yoon Lim, Kyu‐Beck Lee, Hyang Kim, Young Youl Hyun
˜The œNephron journals/Nephron journals

BACKGROUND: Previous cross-sectional studies have shown that low muscle mass is associated with albuminuria in the general population. However, the longitudinal association of low muscle mass with the development of albuminuria is not well known at this time. METHODS: We evaluated 48,101 individuals without chronic kidney disease (CKD) who underwent 2 health check-ups in 2012 and 2016. Participants' skeletal muscle masses were measured using a bioelectrical impedance analyzer and compared via a
