Epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) is a critical cellular phenomenon regulating tumor metastases. In the present study, we investigated whether ginkgolic acid can affect EMT in lung cancer cells and the related underlying mechanism(s) of its actions. We found that ginkgolic acid C15:1 (GA C15:1) inhibited cell proliferation, invasion, and migration in both A549 and H1299 lung cancer cells. GA C15:1 also suppressed the expression of EMT related genes (Fibronectin, Vimentin, N-cadherin, MM

The Effect of Topical Corticosteroids on Refractive Outcome and Corneal Haze after Photorefractive Keratectomy

SJR Q1Journal of Refractive Surgery

BACKGROUND: The effect of topical corticosteroids after excimer laser photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) remains a matter of some controversy. Refractive effects may be different according to the amount of myopia and timing of instillation. METHODS: Two groups of patients were studied: Study A consisted of 215 eyes (128 patients) with PRK (mean baseline myopia, -6.53 +/- 2.22 D) that received no corticosteroids (No Corticosteroid Group) unless significant regression or corneal haze appeared (Dela

Cinobufagin exerts anti-proliferative and pro-apoptotic effects through the modulation ROS-mediated MAPKs signaling pathway

Cinobufagin (CBG) is a cardiotoxic bufanolide steroid secreted by the skin and parotid venom glands of the Asiatic toad Bufo bufo gargarizans (called Chan-Su). Although CBG is known to exhibit anti-cancer activities, very little is known about its potential mechanism(s) of action. In this study, we investigated whether CBG mediates its effect through the modulation of the mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs) signaling pathway in human multiple myeloma (MM) U266 cells. We found that CBG caus

Three-Dimensional Paper-Based Microfluidic Analysis Device for Simultaneous Detection of Multiple Biomarkers with a Smartphone

SJR Q1BiosensorsOA

Paper-based microfluidic analysis devices (μPADs) have attracted attention as a cost-effective platform for point-of-care testing (POCT), food safety, and environmental monitoring. Recently, three-dimensional (3D)-μPADs have been developed to improve the performance of μPADs. For accurate diagnosis of diseases, however, 3D-μPADs need to be developed to simultaneously detect multiple biomarkers. Here, we report a 3D-μPADs platform for the detection of multiple biomarkers that can be analyzed and

Ginkgetin Blocks Constitutive STAT3 Activation and Induces Apoptosis through Induction of SHP‐1 and PTEN Tyrosine Phosphatases

Ginkgetin, a biflavone from Ginkgo biloba leaves, is known to exhibit antiinflammatory, antifungal, neuroprotective, and antitumor activities, but its precise mechanism of action has not been fully elucidated. Because the aberrant activation of STAT3 has been linked with regulation of inflammation, proliferation, invasion, and metastasis of tumors, we hypothesized that ginkgetin modulates the activation of STAT3 in tumor cells. We found that ginkgetin clearly suppressed constitutive phosphorylat

Antimetastatic effect of nobiletin through the down-regulation of CXC chemokine receptor type 4 and matrix metallopeptidase-9

CONTEXT: Nobiletin is one of the citrus bioflavonoids and can be found in citrus fruits such as lemons, oranges, tangerines, and grapefruits. The most studied properties of nobiletin are its anti-inflammatory and anticancer activities. OBJECTIVE: The exact mechanisms of how nobiletin inhibits tumor metastasis and invasion are still not fully understood. In this study, we screened various natural compounds to down-modulate the CXC chemokine receptor-4 (CXCR4) and matrix metallopeptidase-9 (MMP-9)

Immediate Breast Reconstruction Does Not Have a Clinically Significant Impact on Adjuvant Treatment Delay and Subsequent Survival Outcomes

SJR Q2Journal of Breast CancerOA

IBR was associated with a modest increase in the duration from surgery to chemotherapy that was statistically but not clinically significant. Moreover, IBR had no influence on PMRT delay or survival outcomes, suggesting that it is an acceptable option for patients with non-metastatic breast cancer undergoing mastectomy.

With the spread of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) variants, which are randomly mutated, the dominant strains in regions are changing globally. The development of preclinical animal models is imperative to validate vaccines and therapeutics against SARS-CoV-2 variants. The objective of this study was to develop a non-human primate (NHP) model for SARS-CoV-2 Delta variant infection. Cynomolgus macaques infected with Delta variants showed infectious viruses and viral R

SJR Q1EJNMMI Radiopharmacy and ChemistryOA

Abstract Background Nanoparticles exhibit distinct behaviours within the body, depending on their physicochemical properties and administration routes. However, in vivo behaviour of poly(lactic- co -glycolic acid) (PLGA) nanoparticles, especially when administered nasally, remains unexplored; furthermore, there is a lack of comparative analysis of uptake efficiency among different administration routes. Therefore, here, we aimed to comprehensively investigate the real-time in vivo behaviour of P

SJR Q1CancersOA

Purpose: The discernible PD-L1 staining of tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes occupying ≥ 1% of the tumor area is considered SP142 PD-L1 positive for atezolizumab, and the PD-L1 status of multiple samples within a single patient could be discrepant. In this study, we evaluated the PD-L1 status by using the SP142 clone in serially collected matched samples from the same individuals with early or metastatic triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). Method: the SP142 PD-L1 assay was performed using biopsie

BACKGROUND: Recent trials have integrated immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) into neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) in patients with estrogen receptor (ER)-positive, human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-negative breast cancer of histologic grade (HG) III. We assessed the pathological complete response (pCR) rate according to the level of stromal tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (sTIL) and HG in patients with ER + HER2- breast cancer undergoing NAC. METHODS: Between January 2016 and Decemb
