15At a mean of 4.4 years postoperatively, we found that open synovectomy and removal of loose bodies for the treatment of primary synovial osteochondromatosis of the hip is a reliable procedure that can effectively relieve symptoms. Our results also indicated that synovial osteochondromatosis may recur in patients with extensive involvement who are treated with synovectomy alone without dislocation of the hip; however, surgical complications are more likely to occur in patients managed with anteri
Plain radiographic examination is a fundamental approach to the diagnosis and treatment decision-making of the hip. A thorough understanding of standard radiographic techniques, radiographic anatomy, and disease patterns affecting the hip can be helpful in improving diagnostic accuracy. This article reviews the standard protocols used to obtain radiographic projections of the hip and addresses specific signs and various radiographic measurements used to adequately and reliably recognize structur
The present study suggested that robot-assisted short stem THA could increase the accuracy of stem alignment, improve leg length equality, and help reduce the risk of intraoperative femoral fracture as compared with manual rasping. However, the clinical outcome scores did not differ between the two groups at the time of short-term follow-up. Long-term follow-up is needed to determine whether there will be a long-term clinical relevance of robot-assisted implantation of short femoral stems in THA

BACKGROUND: Dysphagia is prevalent in geriatric patients, such as elderly hip fracture patients, and is associated with a poor prognosis. This study investigated (1) the prevalence of dysphagia based on clinical screening and a video-fluoroscopic swallowing study (VFSS), (2) the risk factors of dysphagia, and (3) the prognostic implications of dysphagia in elderly patients (≥ 65 years) undergoing hip fracture surgery. METHODS: In this retrospective study, data from 393 female and 153 male patien
Background: Primary synovial osteochondromatosis of the hip, a rare benign condition characterized by multiple intra-articular osteochondral loose bodies and synovial hyperplasia, may result in mechanical symptoms and degenerative arthritis if untreated. The purpose of this study was to report the results of arthrotomy alone or combined with anterior dislocation of the hip to perform synovectomy and removal of loose bodies in patients with this condition. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed a c
