이승재 교수의 연구실은 분자의 기초를 다지는 분석 기법과 생명현상의 핵심 메커니즘을 밝혀내는 데 초점을 맞추고 있습니다. 특히 RT-qPCR을 활용한 정밀한 RNA 정량 기술 개발과 함께, tRNA 절단체(tRNA halves)가 노화와 수명 연장에 미치는 영향을 규명하는 분야에서 핵심적인 연구를 수행하고 있습니다. 또한 수자원의 맛과 품질을 정량화하는 지표 개발 및 응집조직의 수리역학적 효율성 향상을 위한 CFD 기반 분석 방법도 함께 연구하고 있습니다. 이는 생물학적 메커니즘 이해와 실생활 환경 문제 해결을 융합한 다학제적 연구를 지향합니다.

Transfer RNA (tRNA) halves (tRHs) are generated via the cleavage of tRNAs, but their roles in aging and longevity remain poorly understood. Here, we demonstrate a direct role of tRHs in aging in metazoans. Through a genetic screen using Caenorhabditis elegans, we identify DIS-3/DIS3 as a ribonuclease that catalyzes tRH generation, including 5′-tRH-Gln and 5′-tRH-Asp, from tRNAs.
