15This study demonstrates that the length of the healed PQ muscle does not affect isokinetic forearm rotation strength and clinical outcomes after volar plating for DRFs. The results of this study support our current practice of loose repair of the PQ that is performed by most of the surgeons to prevent tendon irritation over the plate, and suggest that tight repair of the PQ is not necessary for achieving improved forearm function.
Improvement of IONM signals during surgery may indicate that no unrecognized neural injury occurred during surgery and a favorable postoperative neurological outcome can be expected.
BACKGROUD: There are many studies on the vertebral body-to-canal ratio, the so-called Pavlov's ratio of the cervical spine. However, there are no studies on its relation with age to clarify each bony component's contribution to the spinal canal formation and its size. The aim of this study was to investigate differences and changes in the vertebral body-to-canal ratio according to age in an asymptomatic population. METHODS: This is a cross-sectional study of 280 asymptomatic individuals. A total
BACKGROUND: In lumbar spinal stenosis, spinous process-splitting decompression has demonstrated good clinical outcomes with preservation of the posterior ligamentous complex and paraspinal muscles in comparison to conventional laminectomy, but the radiological consequence and clinical impact of the split spinous processes have not been fully understood. METHODS: Seventy-three patients who underwent spinous process-splitting decompression were included. The bone union rate and pattern were evalua
The K-MHQ was found to have a large degree of responsiveness after carpal tunnel release for Korean patients with CTS, which is comparable not only to the K-DASH, but also to the original version of the MHQ. The region-specific K-MHQ can be useful for outcomes research related to carpal tunnel surgery, especially for research comparing CTS with various other hand and wrist health conditions.
STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective case series. PURPOSE: To evaluate the risks and causes of neurologic complications in three-column spinal surgery by analyzing intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring (IONM) data. OVERVIEW OF LITERATURE: Three-column spinal surgery, which may be required to correct complex spinal deformities or resection of spinal tumors, is known to carry a high risk of neurologic complications. However, few studies reported a specific surgical procedure related to a significant
The authors measured the anteversion of the femoral neck and acetabulum and the sum of the two values in normal Korean people by computed tomography. The authors examined the normal range of the values to analyze the difference in sex and sides as well as the relationship between the femoral neck and acetabular anteversion.
Neurological complication is of primary concern in spine surgery and has become a critical issue in recent times. The development of postoperative neurological deficits needs to be completely avoided if possible. To improve neurological safety, intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring (IONM) is used to detect and give a chance to reverse the related causes of neurologic complication during spine surgery. Multimodal IONM has the advantage of compensating for the limitations of each individual
IESFs in cervical spine MRI were detected in 4.5% of cases, with a notable subset being malignant. These findings emphasize the importance of systematic review protocols and interdisciplinary collaboration to ensure clinically significant lesions are identified and managed promptly.
Study Design Retrospective cohort study. Objective To compare the clinical outcomes and cost-effectiveness of vertebroplasty augmented with demineralized bone matrix (VPDBM) and conventional bone cement vertebroplasty (VPBC) in osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures (OVCFs). Methods One hundred eighty-seven patients with acute OVCFs were reviewed (VPDBM, n = 103; VPBC, n = 84). Clinical outcomes were assessed using Visual Analog Scale (VAS) and Koval grade, and radiographic outcomes includ
STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective cohort study. OBJECTIVE: To assess the relationship between generalized and paraspinal sarcopenia in degenerative lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) and identify risk factors for conservative treatment failure. BACKGROUND: Sarcopenia, a condition marked by a progressive, age-related decline in skeletal muscle mass, strength, and function, is increasingly being studied in the context of spinal diseases. However, uncertainties remain about the relationship between paraspinal
