SJR Q3MedicineOA

This study aimed to investigate the possible changes in anterior chest tightness after breast cancer surgery. We also try to investigate whether anterior chest tightness is associated with upper-limb dysfunction after breast cancer surgery. Eighty-three women who underwent breast cancer surgery were evaluated before and 2 weeks, 3 months, and 9 months after surgery. Anterior chest tightness was measured using the length of the pectoralis minor muscle through 2 methods (length from the coracoid p

SJR Q2Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine

OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to measure the degree of movement of the ulnar nerve in the cubital tunnel using sonography in patients with ulnar neuropathy at the elbow compared to a healthy control group. METHODS: We examined the ulnar nerve in the cubital tunnel using sonography with the elbow extended and then flexed in 26 patients with ulnar neuropathy and 13 control participants. The distance from the ulnar nerve to the skin, medial epicondyle, and tip of olecranon at the inlet of t

SJR Q2JCR Journal of Clinical Rheumatology

We present an unusual case of a 26-year-old man with muscular polyarteritis nodosa (PAN) with severe calf pain and gait disturbance. Magnetic resonance imaging of the lower limbs demonstrated highly increased signal intensity in both soleus muscles and the lateral head of the left gastrocnemius muscle. Biopsies of the soleus muscle showed acute necrotizing arteritis. The calf pain and limited range of motion of ankle dorsiflexion subsided from day 1 on administration of oral corticosteroid at hi

SJR Q1Scientific ReportsOA

Temporal parameters during swallowing are analyzed for objective and quantitative evaluation of videofluoroscopic swallowing studies (VFSS). Manual analysis by clinicians is time-consuming, complicated and prone to human error during interpretation; therefore, automated analysis using deep learning has been attempted. We aimed to develop a model for the automatic measurement of various temporal parameters of swallowing using deep learning. Overall, 547 VFSS video clips were included. Seven tempo

L1 radiculopathy mimicking meralgia paresthetica: A case report
Seung Nam Yang, Dong Hwee Kim
SJR Q1Muscle & Nerve

L1 radiculopathy is very rare and difficult to diagnose with needle electromyography. A patient presented with pain and hypesthesia on the anterolateral aspect of the left thigh. Nerve conduction studies and needle electromyography were normal, except for the quadratus lumborum and iliopsoas muscles, which showed abnormal spontaneous activity and polyphasic motor unit potentials with reduced recruitment patterns. Magnetic resonance imaging of the lumbar spine showed disc extrusion of the L1-2 in

Effectiveness of Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy after Botulinum Toxin Injection for Post-Stroke Upper Extremity Spasticity: A Randomized Controlled Study
Junhee Lee, Seung Nam Yang
SJR Q1ToxinsOA

Post-stroke spasticity is a common complication that limits the functional performance of patients. Botulinum toxin (BTx) is an effective treatment for spasticity. Numerous researchers have applied extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) to address post-stroke spasticity, yielding positive clinical outcomes. We aimed to clarify the add-on effects of ESWT on BTx therapy for spasticity in patients with post-stroke. Sixteen eligible patients with upper extremity spasticity after stroke were recrui

OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to compare the ulnar nerve at the wrist by sonographic and electrophysiologic studies between patients with carpal tunnel syndrome and control participants and to verify the effect of carpal tunnel syndrome of the ulnar nerve at the wrist. METHODS: Forty-two hands of patients with carpal tunnel syndrome and 37 hands of control participants were examined. Electrophysiologic studies of the ulnar nerve were done in all participants. The cross-sectional areas of

The purpose of this study was to clarify the association between improvement of spasticity in hemiplegic patient's upper extremity with Botulinum toxin injection and improvement in postural balance and gait function. For this prospective cohort study, sixteen hemiplegic stroke patients with upper extremity spasticity were recruited. The plantar pressure with gait parameters, postural balance parameters, Modified Ashworth Scale, and Modified Tardieu Scale were evaluated before, 3 weeks and 3 mont

SJR Q2Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine

OBJECTIVES: Tremor is one of the cardinal features of Parkinson disease (PD) and may cause cumulative trauma-related injury to nerves of the hands. The aim of this study was to assess the electrodiagnostic and sonographic features of patients with PD and to assess the effect of tremor in PD on the median nerve. METHODS: We studied 31 hands of healthy control participants (n = 16; mean age ± SD, 60.25 ± 14.67 years) and 81 hands of patients with PD (n = 42; 64.95 ± 11.13 years). Motor symptoms we

The purpose of this study was to identify differences in temporal parameters correlating to the presence of aspiration and the severity of penetration-aspiration scale (PAS) in patients with dysphagia after stroke. We also investigated whether there was a significant difference in temporal parameters based on the location of the stroke lesion. A total of 91 patient videofluoroscopic swallowing study (VFSS) videos of stroke patients with dysphagia were retrospectively analyzed. Various temporal p

SJR Q1American Journal of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation

OBJECTIVE: Electrodiagnostic study (EDX) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are commonly used in the diagnosis of brachial plexopathy, but the agreement between these 2 studies is unknown. The aim of this study was to evaluate the agreement of EDX and MRI in patients with brachial plexopathy. DESIGN: The records of 69 patients with symptoms of brachial plexopathy who underwent EDX and MRI were reviewed. Based on the degree of agreement of EDX and MRI results, patients were classified as a "com
