15Purpose: Many studies have proposed predictive models for type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). However, these predictive modelshave several limitations, such as user convenience and reproducibility. The purpose of this study was to develop a T2DM predictivemodel using electronic medical records (EMRs) and machine learning and to compare the performance of this model withtraditional statistical methods. Materials and Methods: In this study, a total of available 8454 patients who had no history of dia
This study compared clinical outcomes of drug-eluting stents (DES) versus bare-metal stents (BMS) in large coronary arteries in patients with acute myocardial infarction (MI). A total of 985 patients who underwent single-vessel percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI)in large coronary arteries (≥ 3.5 mm) in lesions < 25 mm were divided into DES group (n = 841) and BMS group (n = 144). Clinical outcomes during 12 months were compared. In-hospital outcome was similar between the groups. At six mon
We sought to determine the prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MS) in patients with acute myocardial infarction and its effect on clinical outcomes. Employing data from the Korea Acute Myocardial Infarction Registry, a total of 1,990 patients suffered from acute STelevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) between November 2005 and December 2006were categorized according to the National Cholesterol Education Program-Adult Treatment Panel III criteria of MS. Primary study outcomes included major adver
Background and Objectives: The benefit of early statin treatment following acute myocardial infarction (MI) complicated with cardio -genic shock (CS) has not been well studied. We sought to assess the effect of early statin therapy in patients with CS complicating acute MI. Subjects and Methods: We studied 553 statin-naïve patients with acute MI and CS (Killip class IV) who underwent revascularization therapy between November 2005 and January 2008 at 51 hospitals in the Korea Acute Myocardial In
Background/Aims: The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of diabetes mellitus (DM) on in-hospital and 1-year mortality in patients who suffered acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and underwent successful percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Methods: Among 5,074 consecutive patients from the Korea AMI Registry with successful revascularization between November 2005 and June 2007, 1,412 patients had a history of DM. Results: The DM group had a higher mean age prevalence of history of
The incidence of ischemic heart disease has been increased rapidly in Korea. However, the clinical effects of antecedent hypertension on acute myocardial infarction have not been identified. We assessed the relationship between antecedent hypertension and clinical outcomes in 7,784 patients with acute myocardial infarction in the Korea Acute Myocardial Infarction Registry during one-year follow-up. Diabetes mellitus, hyperlipidemia, cerebrovascular disease, heart failure, and peripheral artery d
Purpose: Many recent studies have reported that successful percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with drug-eluting stents(DESs) for chronic total occlusion (CTO) has more beneficial effects than failed CTO-PCI; however, there are only limited dataavailable from comparisons of successful CTO-PCI with medical therapy (MT) in the Korean population. Materials and Methods: A total of 840 consecutive CTO patients who underwent diagnostic coronary angiography, receiving eitherPCI with DESs or MT, we
Purpose: Prediabetes is an independent risk factor for cardiovascular disease. However, data on the long term adverse clinicaloutcomes of prediabetic patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with drug-eluting stents (DESs) arescarce. Materials and Methods: The study population comprised 674 consecutive non-diabetic patients who underwent elective PCI betweenApril 2007 and November 2010. Prediabetes was defined as hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) of 5.7% to 6.4%. Two-year cumulativeclin
Purpose: High sensitive C-reactive protein (hs CRP) is well known as a strong risk factor of cardiovascular disease (CVD). The aim of this study is to evaluate the impact of elevated hs CRP on coronary artery spasm (CAS) as assessed by intracoronary acetylcholine (ACh) provocation test. Materials and Methods: A total of 1729 consecutive patients without significant CVD who underwent coronary angiography and intracoronary ACh test between November 2004 and August 2010 were analyzed. The patients
Purpose: Calcium channel blockers diltiazem and nitrate have been used as selective coronary vasodilators for patients with significantcoronary artery spasm (CAS). However, no study has compared the efficacy of diltiazem alone versus diltiazem with nitrate forlong-term clinical outcomes in patients with CAS. Materials and Methods: A total of 2741 consecutive patients without significant coronary artery disease with positive CAS by acetylcholine(Ach) provocation test between November 2004 and May
Background and Objectives: Although increasing evidence has indicated that radial access is a beneficial technique, few studies have focused on Korean subjects. The aim of this study was to evaluate current practice of coronary angiography (CAG) and percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) using radial access in South Korea. Subjects and Methods: A total of 6338 subjects were analyzed from Korean Transradial Intervention prospective registry that was conducted at 20 centers in Korea. After evalu
Purpose: Angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor (ACEI) and angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB) are associated with a decreasedincidence of new-onset diabetes mellitus (NODM). The aim of this study was to compare the protective effect of ACEIversus ARBs on NODM in an Asian population. Materials and Methods: We investigated a total of 2817 patients who did not have diabetes mellitus from January 2004 to September2009. To adjust for potential confounders, a propensity score matched (PSM) analysis w
Purpose: Differences in the utility of routine angiographic follow-up (RAF) and clinical follow-up (CF) after percutaneous coronaryintervention (PCI) in acute myocardial infarction (AMI) are not well understood. The present study aimed to compare the 3-year clinical outcomes of RAF and CF in AMI patients who underwent PCI with drug-eluting stents (DES). Materials and Methods: A total of 774 consecutive AMI patients who underwent PCI with DES were enrolled. RAF was performedat 6 to 9 months after
Background and Objectives: Angiotensin-receptor blockers (ARBs) have beneficial effects on cardiovascular, metabolic, and inflammatory parameters in addition to controlling blood pressure (BP). However, few comparative clinical studies have been conducted with different ARBs. We compared these effects in patients with uncomplicated hypertension who were receiving telmisartan or valsartan. Subjects and Methods: The subjects were patients with essential hypertension (48.4±9.6 years) who were rando
Background and Objectives: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is an important risk factor for cardiovascular disease. However, the clinical outcome of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) with MetS has not been well examined. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clini-cal outcomes of AMI patients with MetS. Subjects and Methods: We evaluated a total of 6352 AMI patients who had successful percutaneous coronary interventions and could be identified for MetS between 2005 and 2008 at 51 hospitals part
