This study aims to evaluate the extent to which the cooperative relationship between China and the downstream countries in the Mekong River basin has evolved in relation to the various benefits shared between these riparian countries from the 1990s to the present. Benefit sharing is deployed as an analytical framework. Larger benefits obtained through cooperation have led China to become more cooperative with the downstream countries, as seen in the Greater Mekong Subregion programme. The establ

This research aims to analyze environmental movements and social organizations in Shanghai since the late 1990s. The study reveals that civil society in Shanghai has increasingly had an impact on environmentally unfriendly policies given the priority of economic well-being in every aspect of society. This paper explores the extent to which private sector participation has had an impact on Shanghai's water policy since the late 1990s. This study focuses on the private sphere where private companies in the Shanghai water sector have adapted to new changes in political and economic circumstances. Recent findings based on fieldwork and data from 2000 to 2004 disclose that the Shanghai government has been committed to implementing reforms for private sector participation in the water sector. Hydropower Development in the Mekong River Basin - Analysis through the Hydro-Hegemonic Approach -
이승호

The study evaluates the complexity of the relationship between the five states in the Mekong River Basin – China, and the four lower riparian countries, Laos, Thailand, Vietnam, and Cambodia - since the mid-1990s with special reference to hydropower development. Particular attention is paid to China, the upstream country in the basin, which has pushed forward its dam projects since the late 1980s without adequate consultations with the other riparian states. As an analytical framework, the hydro

Abstract This study investigates shared benefits through the cooperation between North Korea and China over transboundary water management in the Yalu River Basin. Primary attention has been placed on joint hydropower development since the 1950s, which has brought in developmental benefits for North Korea and security benefits for China. Data on the study have been collected from relevant papers, government publications, and media reports of China and South Korea. The information on North Korea,

Much research in political ecology has tended to focus on critique rather than solutions and local-scale rather than regional or global-scale analysis. This has meant that the research field has only partly addressed the sorts of issues that a truly global political ecology must do. To this end, this chapter examines hydropower development using the Mekong River Basin as a regional case study of inter-state dynamics. It also introduces a benefit-sharing analytical framework to gauge how far and
