pH-Dependent association of chromogranin A with secretory vesicle membrane and a putative membrane binding region of chromogranin A
Shin Hye Yoo
SJR Q1Biochemistry

Chromogranin A is a low-affinity, high-capacity Ca2+ binding protein, postulated to be responsible for the Ca2+ buffering role of secretory vesicles, and has been found only in the soluble portions of the vesicular proteins. Contrary to the generally accepted notion of chromogranin A existing as a soluble matrix protein, chromogranin A bound to the secretory vesicle membrane at the intravesicular pH of 5.5 and freed from the membrane when the pH was raised to a more physiological pH of 7.5. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the prognostic impact of major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I expression and programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression in patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). A total of 158 patients with HNSCC were evaluated retrospectively. The expression of MHC class I and PD-L1 was analyzed in tumor specimens using immunohistochemistry. The association between MHC class I/PD-L1 expression and clinical outcome was evaluated by Kapl

SJR Q2Thoracic CancerOA

BACKGROUND: Strict eligibility criteria for patient enrollment in phase III trials raise questions regarding generalization to ineligible patients. We evaluated whether pivotal phase III trials of immune checkpoint blockades (ICBs) represent the overall population of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients. METHODS: We reviewed the inclusion and exclusion criteria of three phase III trials (CheckMate057, CheckMate017, and KEYNOTE-010). Stage IIIB or IV NSCLC patients diagnosed from 2011 to 2

Integrated early palliative care (EPC) improves quality of life and reduces psychological distress in adult patients with cancer and caregivers, but attitudes toward EPC have been poorly studied. We aimed to investigate attitudes toward EPC in a nationwide survey of patients with cancer and caregivers. From July to October 2016, we administered nationwide questionnaires examining attitudes toward EPC in patients with cancer (n = 1001) and their families (n = 1006) from 12 Korean hospitals. When

SJR Q1Journal of Nuclear MedicineOA

Metabolic intratumoral heterogeneity (ITH) is known to be related to cancer treatment outcome. However, information on the temporal changes in metabolic ITH during chemotherapy and the correlations between metabolic changes and treatment outcomes in patients with pancreatic cancer is sparse. We aimed to analyze the temporal changes in metabolic ITH and the predictive role of its changes in advanced pancreatic cancer patients who underwent palliative chemotherapy. Methods: We prospectively

SJR Q1Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy

OBJECTIVES: A substantial number of hospitalized patients with terminal cancer at the end-of-life phase receive antibiotics, even with imminent death. We evaluated the impact of palliative care consultation on antibiotic use in hospitalized patients with terminal cancer during the end-of-life phase. METHODS: We identified adult patients with metastatic solid cancer who died at a tertiary medical centre in Seoul, Republic of Korea, following at least 4 days of hospitalization (January 2018-Decemb

Purification and pH-Dependent Secretory Vesicle Membrane Binding of Chromogranin B
Shin Hye Yoo
SJR Q1Biochemistry

Chromogranins A and B have been suggested to play crucial roles in the sorting of vesicular matrix proteins into secretory vesicles during vesicle biogenesis. Chromogranin A (CGA), a high-capacity, low-affinity Ca(2+)-binding protein, is the major protein in the secretory vesicles, while chromogranin B (CGB) is present in the vesicle at a significantly lower concentration. Chromogranin B has not been purified in its native form so far, thus severely limiting detailed studies of this protein. In

SJR Q1Journal of Gynecologic OncologyOA

The proportion of unemployed cervical cancer survivors seems to increase, with low-income status and the presence of medical aid negatively being associated with employment, in addition to other comorbidities and previous working status. Effort should be made to secure the financial status of cervical cancer survivors.

BACKGROUND/AIMS: Since patients with human papillomavirus (HPV)-associated head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) have favorable outcomes after treatment, treatment de-escalation for these patients is being actively investigated. However, not all HPV-positive HNSCCs are curable, and some patients have a poor prognosis. The purpose of this study was to identify poor prognostic factors in patients with HPV-positive HNSCC. METHODS: Patients who received a diagnosis of HNSCC and tested positi

The prevalent use of opioids for pain management in patients with advanced cancer underscores the need for research on their neuropsychiatric impacts, particularly delirium. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the potential association between opioid use and the risk of delirium in patients with advanced cancer admitted to the acute palliative care unit. We conducted a retrospective observational study utilizing a multicenter, patient-based registry cohort by collecting the data from January 1, 2
