The human oral microbiome refers to an ecological community of symbiotic and pathogenic microorganisms found in the oral cavity. The oral cavity is an environment that provides various biological niches, such as the teeth, tongue, and oral mucosa. The oral cavity is the gateway between the external environment and the human body, maintaining oral homeostasis, protecting the mouth, and preventing disease. On the flip side, the oral microbiome also plays an important role in the triggering, develo

SJR Q1International Journal of Oral ScienceOA

Revascularization of immature necrotic teeth is a reliable treatment alternative to conventional apexogenesis or apexification. In case 1, a 12-year-old boy had his necrotic, immature mandibular left second premolar treated with a revascularization technique. At a24-month follow-up, periapical radiolucency had disappeared and thickening of the root wall was observed. In cases 2 and 3, a10-year-old boy had his necrotic, immature, bilateral mandibular second premolars treated with the same modalit

The role of sirtuin 1 in osteoblastic differentiation in human periodontal ligament cells
Yeon-Jung Lee, Seung‐Il Shin, Kyung-Min Shin, Young‐Rae Lee, Byung‐Hyun Park, E.‐C. Kim
SJR Q1Journal of Periodontal Research

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Activation of sirtuin 1 (SIRT1) promotes the differentiation of keratinocytes and mesenchymal stem cells, but inhibits the differentiation of muscle and fat cells. However, the involvement of SIRT1 in the differentiation of human periodontal ligament cells into osteoblast-like cells remains unclear. To identify the role of SIRT1 in human periodontal ligament cells, we measured SIRT1 mRNA and SIRT1 protein levels during the osteoblastic differentiation of human periodont

Basis for differential cellular sensitivity to 8‐azaguanine and 6‐thioguanine
Otto P. van Diggelen, Thomas F. Donahue, Seung‐Il Shin
SJR Q1Journal of Cellular Physiology

Cellular resistance to the cytotoxic purine analogues 8-azaguanine (AG) and 6-thioguanine (TG) is usually mediated by a mutation leading to the loss or reduction in hypoxanthine phosphoribosyltransferase (HPRT) activity. However, stable AG-resistant variants have often been shown to contain wild-type levels of HPRT, while cellular resistance to TG is always accompanied by a profound deficiency in HPRT activity. Such AG-resistant, HPRT-positive cells are still sensitive to TG. To investigate the

SJR Q1Journal of Periodontology

BACKGROUND: Previous studies showed that the use of a porous titanium membrane (TM) for exophytic bone regeneration does not effectively inhibit the infiltration of undesired tissue. Therefore, this study examines the effect of resorbable collagen membranes, such as cross-linked type I collagen membrane (BA) and double-layered porcine collagen membrane (BG), on the promotion of exophytic bone formation in guided bone regeneration when used in conjunction with a porous TM. METHODS: Thirty-six mal

Schneiderian membrane perforation (SMP) is the most common complication during sinus floor elevation (SFE). Conventional methods to repair SMP, such as using a collagen barrier, may be clinically demanding. The aim of the present study was to compare the effects of collagenated bone substitute materials with and without a collagen barrier to repair SMP during SFE in terms of new bone formation and dimensional stability. In 12 rabbits, intentional SMP was made during bilateral SFE. The rabbits we
