15Oral hygiene care such as frequent tooth brushing and regular dental visits for professional cleaning reduced the risk of future cardiovascular events in healthy adults. This study also suggests that improved oral hygiene behaviour may modify the association between oral health and cardiovascular diseases.
Bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP-2) is a potent growth factor affecting bone formation. While recombinant human BMP-2 (rhBMP-2) has been commercially available in cases of non-union fracture and spinal fusion in orthopaedics, it has also been applied to improve bone regeneration in challenging cases requiring dental implant treatment. However, complications related to an initially high dosage for maintaining an effective physiological concentration at the defect site have been reported, althoug
In this study, we designed scaffolds coated with gold nanoparticles (GNPs) grown on a polydopamine (PDA) coating of a three-dimensional (3D) printed polycaprolactone (PCL) scaffold. Our results demonstrated that the scaffolds developed here may represent an innovative paradigm in bone tissue engineering by inducing osteogenesis as a means of remodeling and healing bone defects.
Insufficient bone volume is one of the major challenges encountered by dentists after dental implant placement. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of a customized three-dimensional polycaprolactone (3D PCL) scaffold implant fabricated with a 3D bio-printing system to facilitate rapid alveolar bone regeneration. Saddle-type bone defects were surgically created on the healed site after extracting premolars from the mandibles of four beagle dogs. The defects were radiologically examined usin
BACKGROUND: Root resection is one treatment option for preserving molars with furcation involvement. This study evaluated the prognosis of root-resection therapy retrospectively and examined the factors influencing the survival rate of resected molars. METHODS: Root-resection therapy was performed on 691 molars in 579 patients. The associated factors were examined from 342 of 402 molars that had been followed up for >1 year. Survival analysis was used to statistically analyze the factors. RESULT
Peri-implantitis is a chronic inflammatory process with advanced bone loss and impaired healing potential. For peri-implantitis treatment, tissue engineering can be applied to enhance bone regeneration of peri-implant defects. This study aimed to evaluate ex vivo bone morphogenetic protein 2 (BMP2) gene delivery using canine periodontal ligament stem cells (PDLSCs) for regeneration of peri-implantitis defects. Canine PDLSCs were transduced with adenoviral vectors containing BMP2 (BMP2/PDLSCs). A
Bone tissue healing is a dynamic, orchestrated process that relies on multiple growth factors and cell types. Platelet-derived growth factor-BB (PDGF-BB) is released from platelets at wound sites and induces cellular migration and proliferation necessary for bone regeneration in the early healing process. Bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP-2), the most potent osteogenic differentiation inducer, directs new bone formation at the sites of bone defects. This study evaluated a combinatorial treatment
PISA integrates multiple periodontal indexes, such as probing pocket depth, BOP, and PI into a numerical variable. PISA is advantageous for quantifying periodontal inflammation and plaque accumulation.
Both histomorphometric analysis and micro-CT analysis were valid methods for measurement of the new bone in rat calvarial defects and the ability to detect the new bone in micro-CT analysis was highly influenced by the threshold level in the BMP-2 group at early stage.
Recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein 2 (rhBMP-2) has been widely used in bone tissue engineering to enhance bone regeneration because of its osteogenic inductivity. However, clinical outcomes can vary depending on the scaffold materials used to deliver rhBMP-2. In this study, 3D-printed scaffolds with a ratio of 1:1 polycaprolactone and beta-tricalcium phosphate (PCL/T50) were applied as carriers for rhBMP-2 in mandibular bone defect models in dog models. Before in vivo application, in v
The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19) pandemic has necessitated significant changes in education. A challenging concern in dental education involves student assessment. Social distancing regulations and remote learning have made remote assessment inevitable, creating a pressing need to assure learning outcomes. Because remote assessment is unproctored, it presents unique challenges, including preventing cheating and ensuring fairness
The treatment outcomes of OLP were significantly influenced by age, history of malignancy, menopausal status, and the site of the OLP lesion, but not by factors related to dexamethasone treatment.
Decontamination using a dental water jet and dental floss on microthreaded implants showed positive mechanical debridement effects and positive bone regeneration effects.
BACKGROUND: Previous studies have suggested that frequent toothbrushing is associated with a lower risk of future cardiovascular events. We sought to investigate further the relationship between toothbrushing, cardiovascular risk factors, and lifestyle behaviours. METHODS: We analysed a cross-sectional survey including 13,761 adults aged 30 years or older without a history of cardiovascular diseases from the Korean National Health and Nutritional Examination Survey. Conventional cardiovascular r
