SJR Q1Clinics in Orthopedic SurgeryOA

A thorough knowledge of the standard and variant anatomy of the muscle belly and recurrent motor branch in the carpal tunnel is fundamental to prevention of complications such as muscle wasting or atrophy by iatrogenic motor branch injury during carpal tunnel release.

Comparative study between open and arthroscopic techniques for scaphoid excision and four-corner arthrodesis
Jae Woo Shim, Joo Whan Kim, Min Jong Park
SJR Q1Journal of Hand Surgery (European Volume)

This study presents our technique of arthroscopic scaphoid excision and four-corner arthrodesis and compares the clinical and radiological outcomes with those achieved with the open method. Twenty-seven patients (14 in arthroscopy group and 13 in open group) were included. Bone union was achieved in 13 of 14 patients in the arthroscopy group and in all 13 patients in the open group. In the open group, severe stiffness (flexion–extension arc was 10°) occurred in one patient after surgery. The mea

SJR Q1Journal of Hand Surgery (European Volume)

The purpose of this study was to test the hypothesis that an improved outcome can be achieved by employing simultaneous steroid injection after percutaneous A1 pulley release. One hundred and twelve digits were randomized to either percutaneous A1 pulley release alone or release of the A1 pulley with a steroid injection. The visual analogue scale score for pain, modified patient global impression of improvement and modified Quinnell grade were assessed at 3 weeks and 3 months after surgery. At 3

SJR Q1Clinics in Orthopedic SurgeryOA

Pincer nail deformity is a severe condition in which the nail bed becomes compressed and the nail shows an overcurvature. We retrospectively analyzed 13 pincer nail deformities treated using our nail plate and bed reconstruction technique. Visual analogue scale scores, the width of nail root, width of nail tip, height of nail tip, width index, and height index were assessed before and after surgery. The overcurvature was corrected after detachment of the nail plate. The nail fold was pushed unde

A novel diagnostic method to predict subscapularis tendon tear with sagittal oblique view magnetic resonance imaging

SJR Q1Knee Surgery Sports Traumatology Arthroscopy

PURPOSE: To find novel measurement guidelines correlating with known tear size on two sagittal oblique views (en-face view and Y-view). METHODS: From a series of arthroscopic rotator cuff repair cases between 2012 and 2015, 50 patients were randomly selected from each of six subscapularis tear classifications. Due to rarity of type IV lesions, 272 shoulders were included. En-face view and Y-view in sagittal plane MRI were selected. Image evaluation was retrospectively performed by two researcher

Clinical Outcomes of Nonoperative Treatment for Rotator Cuff Retears and Analysis of Factors That Affect Outcomes
Jae Woo Shim, Young‐Kook Lee, Jae Chul Yoo
SJR Q1Orthopaedic Journal of Sports MedicineOA

BACKGROUND: Patients who sustain a rotator cuff retear after arthroscopic rotator cuff repair are generally considered to have worse clinical outcomes compared with patients with an intact rotator cuff. However, some patients have good clinical outcomes, even with a retorn rotator cuff. PURPOSE: To report the clinical outcomes of nonoperative treatment for rotator cuff retears and analyze the factors affecting clinical outcomes after a retear. STUDY DESIGN: Cohort study; Level of evidence, 3. ME

Failure rates and analysis of risk factors for percutaneous A1 pulley release of trigger digits

SJR Q1Journal of Hand Surgery (European Volume)

This study aimed to identify the rates and risk factors for failure of percutaneous A1 pulley release. We retrospectively analysed patients who underwent percutaneous A1 pulley release between 2015 and 2019. We defined failure as (1) pain or discomfort at the final follow-up, (2) when open release or revision percutaneous release was performed, or (3) when steroid injections were administered three or more times for symptom control. A total of 331 digits from 251 patients were included. The mean

Clinical and radiological outcomes of arthroscopic en bloc repair for delaminated rotator cuff tear versus non-delaminated tear
Jae Woo Shim, Sung Woo Hong, Yong Bok Park, Sang Min Lee, Jae Chul Yoo
SJR Q2Journal of orthopaedic surgeryOA

PURPOSE: The objective of the study is to determine clinical and radiological outcomes of arthroscopic repair for delaminated tears versus non-delaminated tears. METHODS: Consecutive 138 patients with full-thickness rotator cuff tear were retrospectively enrolled. They were divided into two groups based on the presence of delamination. All delaminated tears were repaired by en bloc technique (suturing both layers by single stitch). Delaminated tears were categorized into two types: (1) posterior
