15Abstract Objective Myeloid‐derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) facilitate tumor growth and development by suppressing T cell function; however, their role in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) remains unclear. Here, we investigated the immunosuppressive role and prognostic value of blasts with an MDSC‐like phenotype. Methods CD11b + CD33 + HLA‐DR − MDSC‐like blasts from bone marrow mononuclear cells of patients with AML were analyzed. To investigate their T cell‐suppressing function, MDSC‐like blasts wer
We conducted a multicenter retrospective study to compare the efficacy and toxicity of various chemomobilization regimens: high-dose (HD) cyclophosphamide, HD etoposide (VP-16), and platinum-based chemotherapies. We reviewed the experiences of 10 institutions with 103 non-Hodgkin lymphoma patients who had previously only been treated with cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine, and prednisone (CHOP)-based chemotherapy. The mobilization yields for each regimen were analyzed. HD VP-16 mobilize
The aim of this study was to identify the risk factors associated with severe bacterial infection (SBI) in multiple myeloma (MM) patients during treatment with bortezomib-based regimens. A total of 98 patients with MM were evaluated during 427 treatment courses. SBI occurred in 57.1% (56/98) of the patients and during 19.0% (81/427) of the treatment courses. In the multivariate analysis for the factors associated with the development of SBI in each treatment course, poor performance status (East
Cutaneous metastases from internal malignancies are uncommon. Furthermore, cutaneous metastases from cholangiocarcinoma are extremely rare. Here we report a case of two patients with distant cutaneous metastases of cholangiocarcinoma: 1) a 66-year-old man who presented with a solitary, erythematous nodule on the scalp and 2) a 44-year-old man who presented with multiple, erythematous nodules on the scalp, the chest wall, and the back. In both cases, the erythematous nodules were the first clinic
INTRODUCTION: Acquired haemophilia A (AHA) treatment involves the haemostatic treatment for acute haemorrhage and immunosuppressive therapy (IST) to eradicate FVIII inhibitory antibodies. AIM: We assessed the clinical features of AHA and analysed treatment outcomes in Korea. We further identified prognostic factors affecting treatment outcomes. METHODS: Medical records of 55 patients with AHA from 18 institutions were reviewed retrospectively. Logistic and Cox regression analyses were performed

BACKGROUND: Continuous infusion of factor VIII (FVIII) is a more cost-effective method for treating hemophilia A than intermittent bolus injection. However, there is currently no specific data in Korea about the progress of in vitro FVIII coagulant activity (FVIII:C) after reconstitution from its lyophilized form. METHODS: Three commercial FVIII concentrate products (two recombinant FVIII and one plasma-derived) were used. In vitro FVIII:C was measured at 0, 2, 4, 6, and 8 hours following recons
Abstract Background: Na/H exchanger 1 (NHE1), an important participant in the precise regulation system of intracellular pH (pHi), is known to be involved in pathological processes such as cell transformation, maintenance and active progression of the neoplastic process. Some studies have showed that leukemic cells showed higher pHi than normal cells, and NHE1 inhibitor could induce acidification and apoptosis of the leukemic cells. In this study, we tried to elucidate the role of NHE1 in leukem
Abstract Background Physical and functional status affect the survival after allogeneic stem cell transplantation. There are several indices to measure risk of complication and non-relapse mortality after stem cell transplantation. Karnofsky score and ECOG score are the mostly used indices for measuring functional status. However they are measured subjectively by observer and can be changed in brief time. Recently a few reports documented relationship between the mortality and sarcopenia in vari
PURPOSE: Beroctocog alfa is a second generation recombinant factor VIII manufactured by removing the B-domain from factor VIII. This prospective clinical trial was conducted to evaluate the efficacy, safety, and pharmacokinetics of beroctocog alfa in patients of ages ≥12 years previously treated for severe hemophilia A. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Seventy subjects received beroctocog alfa as an on-demand treatment for acute hemorrhage. RESULTS: The final hemostatic effect was excellent in 35 subjects
Despite advances with novel targeted agents (e.g., BCL-2 or IDH inhibitors) combined with chemotherapy for acute myeloid leukemia (AML), drug resistance persists. We investigated whether blocking Na+/H+ exchanger 1 (NHE1) could enhance AML cell sensitivity to the BCL-2 inhibitor venetoclax and sought to determine the molecular mechanisms. Our results demonstrated that co-treatment with venetoclax and the NHE1 inhibitor 5-(N,N-hexamethylene) amiloride (HMA) synergistically induced apoptosis in bo
Abstract Background The aim of this study is to identify risk factors associated with the development of severe bacterial infection (SBI) in patient with multiple myeloma (MM) during treatment with bortezomib-containing regimens. Methods A total of 98 patients with MM who were treated with bortezomib-based treatment between 2006 and 2012 were analyzed. Fifty three patients received bortezomib-dexamethasone, 25 patients received bortezomib-melphalan-prednisolone, 15 patients received bortezomib-d
Abstract Objectives We evaluated clinical characteristics including adherence and its effects on overall survival (OS) in Korean patients diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) using National Health Information Database "NHID". Methods This study included patients 15 and older who were diagnosed with Philadelphia chromosome positive CML (ICD code C921) from 2005 to 2013 and prescribed with tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs). TKIs included imatinib, dasatinib, nilotinib and radotinib which
