Viewing time through the lens of the self: The fit effect of self‐construal and temporal distance on task perception
Sujin Lee, Angela Y. Lee, Mary C. Kern
SJR Q1European Journal of Social PsychologyOA

Abstract This paper describes how different self‐construals influence people's perception of temporal distance and in turn their task evaluation. We hypothesize that people with a more accessible interdependent (vs. independent) self‐construal perceive future events as temporally more proximal, and that people's reaction toward a task is intensified when the temporal distance to the task matches (vs. mismatches) their self‐construal. Across four studies, we showed that individuals with a more ac

East Asians’ Social Heterogeneity: Differences in Norms among Chinese, Japanese, and Korean Negotiators
Sujin Lee, Jeanne M. Brett, Ji Hyearn Park
SJR Q2Negotiation Journal

Abstract East Asian cultures are widely held to be fairly homogeneous in that they highly value harmonious social relationships. We propose, however, that the focus (dyadic versus group) and the nature (emotional versus instrumental) of social relations vary among the Chinese, Japanese, and Korean cultures in ways that have important implications for the negotiation tactics typically employed by managers from these three cultures. Our data are from a web survey administered to three hundred eigh

Analysis of College Students' Online Life-Styles and Their Psychological Profiles in South Korea
Sujin Lee
SJR Q1Cyberpsychology Behavior and Social Networking

This study examines the relationships between the online life-styles of South Korean students as Internet users and Internet use, their tendency toward Internet addiction, and the level of cyber ethics. A sample of 324 students, aged between 18 and 23 years, from a medium-sized university in South Korea was asked to complete a survey. They were categorized into three groups depending on their online life-styles: a Social group (SG), an Individual group (IG), and a Loner group (LG). In the follow

Feeling Depleted and Powerless
Junha Kim, Sujin Lee, Tuvana Rua
SJR Q1Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin

Individuals exercise self-control daily to achieve desired goals; at the same time, people engage in social interaction daily and influence (feel powerful) or are influenced (feel powerless) by others. Does controlling the self have an unforeseen consequence for people's perception of their capacity to control others? Five studies-one correlational and four experimental-demonstrate that ego depletion from prior self-control determines one's personal sense of power; low-level, concrete mental con

Vision-Based Optimal Landing Guidance Law for VTOL UAVs on a Moving Platform
Wondae Jang, Moon-Gyeang Cho, Heungsik Lim, Sujin Lee
SJR Q2International Journal of Aeronautical and Space SciencesOA

Abstract This paper proposes a vision-based autonomous landing strategy for vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) UAVs on a moving platform. The approach uses visual measurements to estimate the relative position and speed between the landing pad and the UAV. Challenges arise when the landing pad moves out of the camera’s field of view or when visual measurements become unstable due to excessive UAV maneuvers, leading to degraded landing performance. To address this, the study introduces a novel

Hidden influences in international negotiations: The interactive role of insecure cultural attachment, risk perception, and risk regulation for sellers versus buyers
Tuvana Rua, Zeynep G. Aytug, Mary C. Kern, Sujin Lee, Wendi L. Adair
SJR Q1Thunderbird International Business Review

This research examines the previously unstudied role of cultural attachment in international negotiations. Specifically focusing on the fearful attachment style, this article reveals the intricate interaction of cultural attachment, risk perception, and risk regulation on negotiators' ability to claim value in international negotiation. Supporting our theorizing based on cultural attachment and prospect theory, findings show that risk‐averse sellers with fearful attachment to their national cult
