15OBJECTIVE: To investigate the biologic effects of Corticision on alveolar remodeling in orthodontic tooth movement. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this study, 16 cats were divided into 3 groups: group A, only orthodontic force (control); group B, orthodontic force plus Corticision; and group C, orthodontic force plus Corticision and periodic mobilization. Histologic and histomorphometric studies were performed on tissue specimens on days 7, 14, 21, and 28. RESULTS: Extensive direct resorption of bund
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Both Corticision and low-level laser therapy (LLLT) are known to affect the rate of tooth movement. Our objective was to investigate the combined effects of Corticision and LLLT on the tooth movement rate and paradental remodeling in beagles. STUDY DESIGN/MATERIALS AND METHODS: The maxillary second premolars (n = 24) of 12 beagles were randomly divided into four groups (n = 6 per group) based on the treatment modality: group A, only orthodontic force (control); group B,
OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effectiveness and periodontal side effects of laser circumferential supracrestal fiberotomy (CSF) and low-level laser therapy (LLLT) on orthodontically rotated teeth in beagles. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Eighteen mandibular incisors from nine dogs were divided into three groups by treatment (n = 6/group): A, orthodontic couple force application only (control); B, laser CSF following orthodontic couple force application; and C, LLLT following orthodontic couple force ap
OBJECTIVES: To identify and characterize the phenotypes of adult obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) patients based on clustering using OSA severity, obesity, and craniofacial pattern. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The samples consisted of 89 adult OSA patients whose polysomnography and lateral cephalogram were available. With cluster analysis using apneahypopnea index (AHI, events/hour), body mass index (BMI, kg/m2), ANB (degree), and mandibular plane angle (MPA, degree), three clusters were identified. Cep
In scissors bite cases, a good diagnosis will help the clinician to decide whether treatment should involve orthognathic surgery. The authors have shown a case that was corrected with surgery and a case that was corrected using TSAD anchors. Treatment planning must include evaluation of the basal arch width of maxilla and mandible in class I occlusion, any skeletal asymmetry concomitant with a mandibular shift, the inclinations or atypical eruption degree of the posterior teeth, and the number o
OBJECTIVES: To evaluate three-dimensional (3D) craniofacial changes induced by a non-surgical tooth-bone-borne rapid palatal expander (TBB-RPE) according to the symmetrical pattern of expansion, to investigate the 3D changes between the sides in patients with asymmetric expansion, and to identify the related factors of asymmetric expansion. SETTING AND SAMPLE POPULATION: Sixty-six patients (mean age: 19.3 ± 5.7 years) treated with TBB-RPE were divided into a symmetric expansion group (Group S, n
The purpose of the present study was to examine the effect of Lycii Radicis Cortex (LRC) and betaine (BT) on immobility and neurochemical change in the forced swimming test (FST) in the rat. LRC, BT or fluoxentine was administered intraperitoneally to Sprague-Dawley rats three times (1, 5 and 23.5 h) before the FST. To investigate antidepressant-like effect, serotonin (5-HT) and norepinephrine (NE) were examined in the hippocampus and hypothalamus of rats. LRC (100 mg/kg) and BT (30, 100 mg/kg)
OBJECTIVES: The aim of the study was to evaluate the accuracy of a cascaded two-stage convolutional neural network (CNN) model in detecting upper airway (UA) soft tissue landmarks in comparison with the skeletal landmarks on the lateral cephalometric images. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The dataset contained 600 lateral cephalograms of adult orthodontic patients, and the ground-truth positions of 16 landmarks (7 skeletal and 9 UA landmarks) were obtained from 500 learning dataset. We trained a UNet wi
OBJECTIVE: To investigate the frequency distribution of various craniofacial skeletal patterns in a large Korean adult obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) population, and to find a relationship between craniofacial risks and respiratory and sleep characteristics. METHODS: A total of 1226 OSA patients (mean age of 44.9±13.3 years) were included in this retrospective cross-sectional study. All subjects were evaluated for gender and age using fourteen polysomnographic, five cephalometric, two comorbid va
