15BACKGROUND: This study aimed to estimate the incidence and prevalence of idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIM) and associated comorbidities in Korea from 2006 to 2015. METHODS: IIM between 2004 to 2015 were identified using the Korean National Health Insurance Service medical claim database. The case definition required more than one visit based on diagnostic codes including juvenile dermatomyositis (JDM), dermatomyositis (DM), or polymyositis (PM) and registration in the Individual Copayment
BACKGROUND: To identify knee osteoarthritis (OA) patients among OA patients in the claims database. METHODS: All patients with OA diagnostic codes for any sites (M15 to M19) in 2014 were recruited from a single academic referral hospital. After excluding patients who had inflammatory arthritis or were less than 50 years of age, we identified data for the overall OA population. Radiographic knee OA of Kellgren and Lawrence grades ≥2 is considered the gold standard for knee OA, and we evaluated th
Glucocorticoids are used to treat many autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. However, an adverse systemic effect is a deleterious effect on bone, which may lead to glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis, characterized by a rapid and transient increase in bone resorption and fracture risk, which may increase rapidly within 3 months of commencing oral glucocorticoids. Therefore, early risk assessment and intervention are crucial for preventing fractures in patients receiving glucocorticoids. Recent p
BACKGROUND: The concerns about the development of adverse events (AEs) in elderly RA patients as a result of age-related changes in drug metabolism and the presence of comorbid illnesses are emphasizing due to increasing prevalence of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in old age. However, they tend to be inadequately represented in RA clinical trials because of the exclusion criteria that are commonly applied. The tolerability and safety of TNF inhibitors in elderly patients have not been also evaluated
BACKGROUND: Treatment with disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs) has raised concerns about the risk of malignancies in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients. However, the association between biologic DMARDs (bDMARDs) and malignancy in previous reports remains controversial. Therefore we aimed to estimate the incidence of malignancy in early RA patients and to evaluate the relative risk of malignancy with use of bDMARDs. METHODS: A retrospective cohort of incident RA patients was establish
OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the risks of overall and site-specific malignancies in Korean patients with primary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS). METHODS: Using the Korean nationwide healthcare claims database, we constructed a retrospective cohort for prevalent pSS aged over 50 years. After enrollment between January 2012 and December 2014, patients were followed until the development of any malignancy, or until December 2015. Crude incidence rates of malignancies of pSS patients were calculated, and their

More than half of patients with RA thought their disease more severe than their physicians. In addition to high disease activity, pain, fatigue, and sleep disturbance or GI disease were associated with the discordance between physicians and patients with RA.
Background/Aims: To identify the factors associated with time to diagnosis after symptom onset in patients with early rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Methods: Early RA patients with ≤ 1 year of disease duration in the KORean Observational study Network for Arthritis (KORONA) database were included in this analysis. Patients were further divided into two groups according to the time to diagnosis from symptom onset: the early diagnosis group (time to diagnosis ≤ 1 year) and the late diagnosis group (ti
