15Disorganized attachment has been proposed as a mediating mechanism in the relation between childhood abuse and dissociation. However, support for mediation has been mixed when interview or self-report measures of attachment have been used. In the current work, relations among severity of abuse, attachment disorganization, and dissociation were assessed in young adulthood using both interview and interaction-based measures of attachment. A total of 112 low-income young adults were assessed for so
This paper investigates South Korean educational responses to school closures amid the COVID-19 pandemic, viewed with a risk and resilience framework. The COVID-19 crisis emerged and worsened right before the beginning of the new school year (March 2) in South Korea, and immediately led to students’ limited access to educational facilities. Well-established IT infrastructure and national curriculum facilitated the adoption of distance learning in South Korean schools. However, educational inequa
Introduction Psychological wellbeing is an essential indicator of early care and education (ECE) teachers’ positive practices across countries. Moreover, previous studies suggest that teachers’ wellbeing and practice may be indirectly associated via emotion regulation. However, teachers in various contexts demonstrate different patterns of psychological wellbeing, emotion regulation, and emotional responsiveness, and the ways these factors associate with each other also vary. Methods The current
ObjectiveThe present study assessed whether the often reported relation between childhood abuse and the extent of borderline personality disorder (BPD) and antisocial personality disorder (ASPD) features would be mediated by Hostile–Helpless (HH) and/or Unresolved (U) states of mind on the Adult Attachment Interview (AAI).MethodOne hundred and three young adults from low- to moderate-income families were assessed for HH and U states of mind on the AAI, psychopathology on the SCID I and II, and c
Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, cases of discrimination and hate crimes against minority populations including international students have soared in the U.S. This study explores the relationship between international students’ perceived discrimination and their self-reported overall health and the role of social support and positive emotions in such relationship. In total, 203 international students studying at two U.S. universities participated in an online survey. The results indi
Abstract The quality of early care and education (ECE) is related to early childhood teachers’ positive work attitudes, as prior research suggests committed and satisfied educators provide effective support and instruction to children. It is important to understand the relationships between psychological and physical factors in relation to teachers’ commitment and satisfaction, especially those working within systematically marginalized communities. Using a sample of 166 Head Start teachers, pre
Early care and education (ECE) teachers play a significant role in creating the social and emotional learning climate in the classroom. The present qualitative study explores short and long-term outcomes of Social Emotional Learning for Teachers (SELF-T), an online intervention that was delivered as part of a comprehensive professional development program and aimed at promoting ECE teachers’ social-emotional competence and well-being through their knowledge and practice of stress-management and
Research Findings: Occupational stress among educators in early care and education (ECE) has emerged as a critical focus in ECE workforce development, given its detrimental effects on teaching practices and educators’ well-being. This study used improvement science-based intervention data to investigate the sources and underlying causes of occupational stress collectively experienced by teams of Head Start educators. Data were collected from 113 educators across four Head Start grantees through
In this exploratory study, we used a person-centered approach to examine 117 U.S. early childhood and elementary school teachers’ perceptions of their social and emotional practices within an evidence-based framework. A latent profile analysis revealed a 4-profile model with four distinct groups. Teachers’ level of education and years of experience were associated with lower or higher perceptions of child behavior. Results reveal how teachers’ perceptions of their social and emotional implementa
