15Several computer aided diagnosis (CAD) systems have been developed for mammography. They are widely used in certain countries such as the U.S. where mammography studies are conducted more frequently; however, they are not yet globally employed for clinical use due to their inconsistent performance, which can be attributed to their reliance on hand-crafted features. It is difficult to use hand-crafted features for mammogram images that vary due to factors such as the breast density of patients an
CEDM demonstrated a diagnostic performance comparable with CEMRI in depicting index cancers, secondary cancers, and occult cancer in the contralateral breast. CEDM demonstrated similar changes in surgical management compared with CEMRI.
To compare the accuracy of contrast-enhanced digital mammography (CEDM) and MRI, including maximal intensity projection (MIP) images, for measuring the tumour size of breast cancer. We included 52 females (mean age, 50.9 years) with surgery due to breast cancer, and measured maximum diameter of main mass on mediolateral oblique (MLO) and craniocaudal (CC) views of mammography and CEDM; sagittal, axial MIP images, and early dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI (CEMRI) before surgery. Bland–Altman plot,
Pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) continues to be one of the significant public health threats with significant morbidity and mortality. The present study was aimed to assess the clinical characteristics and chest computed tomography (CT) findings of smear-positive and smear-negative PTB in hospitalized adult patients.Hospitalized adult patients diagnosed with PTB by positive Mycobacterium tuberculosis growth on acid-fast bacilli culture from bronchial aspiration or sputum from 2015 to 2017 were revi
Endothelial cell senescence is involved in endothelial dysfunction and vascular diseases. However, the detailed mechanisms of endothelial senescence are not fully understood. Here, we demonstrated that deficiency of developmentally regulated GTP-binding protein 2 (DRG2) induces senescence and dysfunction of endothelial cells. DRG2 knockout (KO) mice displayed reduced cerebral blood flow in the brain and lung blood vessel density. We also determined, by Matrigel plug assay, aorta ring assay, and
The aim of this study is to evaluate the usefulness of serum procalcitonin (PCT) as a diagnostic biomarker for distinguishing pneumonia from pulmonary edema in patients presenting with pulmonary infiltrates on chest radiography.A comparative study was performed retrospectively in a university-affiliated hospital, from May, 2013 to April, 2015. Adult patients (≥18 years) who showed pulmonary infiltrates on chest radiography and had blood tests with C-reactive protein (CRP), erythrocyte sedimentat
This study aimed to investigate the association between the degree of thoracic duct dilatation and the progression of chronic liver disease. In this cross-sectional and retrospective study, 179 patients (mean age, 60.9 years; 114 men) with chronic liver disease who underwent chest CT were enrolled. Dilatation of the left distal thoracic ducts (DTD) was measured and divided into the following 3 grades according to the maximum transverse diameter: grade 0, invisible thoracic duct; grade 1, visible
BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Computer-aided detection (CAD) systems for lung nodule detection often face challenges with 5 mm computed tomography (CT) scans, leading to missed nodules. This study assessed the efficacy of a deep learning-based slice thickness reduction technique from 5 mm to 1 mm to enhance CAD performance. METHODS: In this retrospective study, 687 chest CT scans were analyzed, including 355 with nodules and 332 without nodules. CAD performance was evaluated on nodules, to which all th
We describe a patient misinterpreted to have a lung mass on CT owing to extension of hepatic segments II and III between the diaphragm and spleen. This report underscores the importance of being aware of this normal anatomic variant and the utility of two-dimensional multiplanar reformation in interpretation of abnormalities in the region of the thoracoabdominal junction.
