Effects of Radiation Therapy on the Lung: Radiologic Appearances and Differential Diagnosis
Yo Won Choi, Reginald F. Munden, Jeremy J. Erasmus, Kyung Joo Park, Woo Kyung Chung, Seok Chol Jeon, Choong-Ki Park
SJR Q1Radiographics

Radiation-induced lung disease (RILD) due to radiation therapy is common. Radiologic manifestations are usually confined to the lung tissue within the radiation port and are dependent on the interval after completion of treatment. In the acute phase, RILD typically manifests as ground-glass opacity or attenuation or as consolidation; in the late phase, it typically manifests as traction bronchiectasis, volume loss, and scarring. However, the use of oblique beam angles and the development of newe

SJR Q1American Journal of Roentgenology

Multilocular thymic cysts typically manifest on CT as unilocular or multilocular cystic thymic masses, often with soft-tissue attenuation components. CT cannot be used to distinguish neoplastic from nonneoplastic soft-tissue components.

Pulmonary Tuberculosis: Another Disease Showing Clusters of Small Nodules
Jeong-Nam Heo, Yo Won Choi, Seok Chol Jeon, Choong Ki Park
SJR Q1American Journal of Roentgenology

Large nodules arising from the coalescence of small nodules may be seen in active tuberculosis and in sarcoidosis. The CT finding was termed "clusters of small nodules" instead of the "sarcoid galaxy sign" in this article. A single cluster of small nodules, clusters of small nodules in the superior segment of the lower lobe, or clusters of small nodules not associated with lymphadenopathy or associated with tree-in-bud lesions would favor the diagnosis of active pulmonary tuberculosis rather tha

The “High-Riding” Superior Pericardial Recess

SJR Q1American Journal of Roentgenology

OBJECTIVE. We recently observed patients in whom the superior pericardial recess extended cephalad ("high-riding") into the right paratracheal region. In these patients, differentiation from mediastinal lymphadenopathy or mass was difficult. The purpose of this study was to assess the prevalence and CT features of the high-riding superior pericardial recess. CONCLUSION. Narrow-collimation CT with multiplanar reformations was useful for confidently diagnosing a high-riding superior pericardial re

SJR Q2Respiration

Tracheopathia osteoplastica (TO) is a relatively rare benign disease of the trachea and major bronchi, characterized by cartilaginous and bony submucosal nodules covered by intact mucosa, which may cause narrowing and rigidity of the upper airways. The diagnosis of TO is rarely considered because of a lack of awareness of this entity, rather than the reported rare occurrence. We intend to report herein a case initially misinterpreted as bronchial asthma but later disclosed through computerized t

SJR Q3Journal of Computer Assisted Tomography

OBJECTIVE: The aim of the study was to evaluate the characteristics of coronary artery-to-pulmonary artery fistula (CPAF) found by coronary computed tomography (CT) angiography. METHODS: Among 10,121 cases of coronary CT angiography performed for 7 years, we found 32 cases of CPAF. We retrospectively evaluated the demographics, clinical symptoms, and anatomical characteristics such as the origin, number of origins, course, opening site of the fistula, and the presence of aneurysmal changes (defi

Esophageal tubular duplication complicated with intraluminal hematoma: a case report
Young Sun Kim, Choong Ki Park, Yo Won Choi, Seok Chol Jeon, Heung Suk Seo, Chang Kok Hahm
SJR Q2Journal of Korean Medical ScienceOA

Esophageal tubular duplication is a rare congenital anomaly. We experienced a patient with esophageal tubular duplication who presented with a swallowing difficulty which was aggravated after a gastrofiberscopic examination. Preoperative diagnosis was intramural hematoma of the esophagus due to trauma caused by endoscopy. Surgical specimen revealed that hematoma was located within a duplicated lumen of the esophagus. The radiologic and endoscopic findings are discussed in correlation with its pa

Mucormycosis of the Central Airways

SJR Q2Journal of Thoracic Imaging

Computed tomographic (CT) findings are described in three diabetic patients with central airways mucormycosis. The CT findings of the tracheobronchial mucormycosis include enhancing areas of mural thickening (n = 3), luminal narrowing (n = 3), intramural air (n = 3), low-attenuation nonenhancing bronchial wall thickening (n = 2), and bronchonodal fistula formation (n = 1). These CT features in a diabetic patient should raise a high index of suspicion for tracheobronchial mucormycosis, particular

The Korean Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular SurgeryOA

We present a case of left ventricular pseudoaneurysm, which is a very rare and fatal complication of cardiac procedures such as mitral valve replacement. A 55-year-old woman presented to the Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery at Hanyang University Seoul Hospital with chest pain. Ten years prior, the patient had undergone double valve replacement due to aortic regurgitation and mitral steno-insufficiency. Surgical repair was successfully performed using a prosthetic pericardial pat

Does Contrast Enhancement on CT Suggest Tumor Response for Chemotherapy in Small Cell Carcinoma of the Lung?
Jung-Bin Choi, Choong-Ki Park, Dong Woo Park, Yongsoo Kim, Young-Sun Kim, Yo Won Choi, Seok Chol Jeon
SJR Q3Journal of Computer Assisted Tomography

In small cell carcinoma of the lung, it is statistically proven that the more enhanced tumor on CT, the better response to chemotherapy. Tumor enhancement of 30 HU is a suggestive guide for chemotherapy response in patients with small cell carcinoma.
