15Ultrasonography is a useful complementary tool for the evaluation of CTS. Both WFR and CSA-W are highly correlated with severity grade of CTS. However, WFR is superior to CSA-W for diagnosis and grading of the severity of CTS.
As a first-line treatment for lateral elbow tendinopathy (LET), eccentric exercise has been suggested as a conservative treatment method. This study aimed to investigate the impact of eccentric exercise on LET with regard to pain reduction, and strength and functional improvement. The PubMed, EMBASE, and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials databases were searched, and studies up to May 2021 were included if (1) randomization was used for patient allocation, (2) the study comprised pat
STUDY DESIGN: An institutional, prospective clinical data analysis. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the safety and efficacy of a new navigable percutaneous disc decompression device (L'DISQ) in patients with lumbar disc herniation with radicular pain. METHODS AND OUTCOME MEASURES: We performed disc decompressions using L'DISQ on 27 patients with persistent disabling back and leg pain for 1 month or longer (average 6.48 months) due to a herniated lumbar intervertebral disc. Baseline data were prospectivel
OBJECTIVE: Ultrasound-guided cervical nerve root block (US-CRB) is considered a safe and effective method for the treatment of radicular pain. However, previous studies on the spreading pattern of injected solution in US-CRB have reported conflicting results. The aim of this study was to investigate the spreading pattern in relation to injection volume. DESIGN: An institutional, prospective case series. SETTING: A university hospital. SUBJECTS: Fifty-three patients diagnosed with mono-radiculopa
OBJECTIVE: To verify the utility of the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve (LFCN) ultrasound-guided conduction technique compared to that of the conventional nerve conduction technique. METHODS: Fifty-eight legs of 29 healthy participants (18 males and 11 females; mean age, 42.7±14.9 years) were recruited. The conventional technique was performed bilaterally. The LFCN was localized by ultrasound. Cross-sectional area (CSA) of the LFCN and the distance between the anterior superior iliac spine (ASIS
INTRODUCTION: High resolution ultrasonography (US) has been used for diagnosis and evaluation of entrapment peripheral neuropathy. Ulnar neuropathy at the elbow (UNE) is the second most common focal entrapment neuropathy. The ulnar nerve tends to move to the anteromedial side and sometimes subluxates or dislocates over the medial epicondyle as the elbow is flexed. Dislocation of the ulnar nerve during elbow flexion may contribute to friction injury. We aimed to investigate the effects which the
Background and Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between handgrip strength (HGS) and quality of life (QOL) in patients diagnosed with osteoarthritis (OA) or rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Materials and Methods: We enrolled 13,966 from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey from 2015 to 2018. All participants underwent the health-related QOL assessment using the European Quality of Life Scale-Five dimensions (EQ-5D) and measured the HGS. The weak HGS was
Background and Objectives: The purpose of this retrospective study was to identify predictors of short-term outcomes associated with a lumbosacral transforaminal epidural steroid injection (TFESI). Materials and Methods: The medical records of 218 patients, who were diagnosed with lumbosacral radiculopathy and treated with a TFESI, were reviewed in this retrospective study. A mixture of corticosteroid, lidocaine, and hyaluronidase was injected during TFESI. Patients with >50% pain relief on t
OBJECTIVE: To investigate the relationship between urinary retention and short-term functional recovery in subacute stage after stroke. METHODS: The medical records of 94 patients admitted to the rehabilitation unit of Korea University Guro Hospital were reviewed retrospectively. The postvoid residual urine (PVR) was measured at least once a day using a bladder scan, and urinary retention (UR) was defined when the daily PVR volume consistently checked more than 100 mL. Clinical data and function
OBJECTIVE: To investigate the diagnostic value of cross-sectional area (CSA) and wrist to forearm ratio (WFR) in patients with electro-diagnosed carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) with or without diabetes mellitus (DM). METHODS: We retrospectively studied 256 CTS wrists and 77 healthy wrists in a single center between January 1, 2008 and January 1, 2013. The CSA and WFR were calculated for each wrist. Patients were classified into four groups according to the presence of DM and CTS: group 1, non-DM an
INTRODUCTION: The purpose of this study was to investigate the usefulness of the echogenicity (EI) ratio of the thenar to hypothenar muscle measured using ultrasonography in assessing the severity of carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). METHODS: Fifty-nine hands of 30 patients electrodiagnostically confirmed as having CTS were classified into 3 subgroups (mild, moderate, and severe). The EI of the thenar and hypothenar muscles was measured with ultrasonography, and the EI ratio was calculated in the pa
Background and Objectives: Hand grip strength (HGS) and osteoporosis are known to be closely related to the health condition of the elderly, respectively. Comprehensive studies including adults over middle age were insufficient. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between HGS with osteoporosis and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in adults aged >40 years. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional analysis included data from 13,966 people aged >40 years between 2015 to
