Viral expression of insulin-like growth factor-I enhances muscle hypertrophy in resistance-trained rats
Sukho Lee, Elisabeth R. Barton, H. Lee Sweeney, Roger P. Farrar
SJR Q1Journal of Applied Physiology

Muscle hypertrophy is the product of increased drive through protein synthetic pathways and the incorporation of newly divided satellite cells. Gains in muscle mass and strength can be achieved through exercise regimens that include resistance training. Increased insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I) can also promote hypertrophy through increased protein synthesis and satellite cell proliferation. However, it is not known whether the combined effect of IGF-I and resistance training results in an

Resistance training induces muscle-specific changes in muscle mass andfunction in rat
Sukho Lee, Roger P. Farrar

RESISTANCE TRAINING INDUCES MUSCLE -SPECIFIC CHANGES IN MUSCLE MASS AND FUNCTION IN RAT. Sukho Lee, Roger P. Farrar. JEPonline. 2003;6(2):80-87. Resistance exercise is frequently used to induce hypertrophy in animal model. T his study examined the effects of 8 weeks of resistance training followed by 4 to 8 weeks of detraining on muscle mass and function. The resistance training consisted of climbing (5 reps/3 sets) a ladder carrying a load suspended from the tail. The weights were increased gra

Sport-based physical activity intervention on body weight in children and adolescents: a meta-analysis
Kyungun Kim, Gina Ok, Soeun Jeon, Minsoo Kang, Sukho Lee
SJR Q1Journal of Sports Sciences

Controversial results reported in past research pertaining to the effectiveness of sport-based physical activity interventions on weight loss. The purpose of this study was to assess the impact of sport-based physical activity intervention on body weight in children and adolescents using a meta-analysis. Academic Search Complete, Education Source, ERIC, Medline, ProQuest, PsycINFO and SportDiscus databases were searched from January 2000 to April 2015. Eighteen studies met following inclusion cr

Categorization and Clinicopathological Features of Chronic Rhinosinusitis With Eosinophilic Mucin in a Korean Population
Sukho Lee, Hak Jun Kim, Jin Woo Lee, Young Hoon Yoon, Yong Min Kim, Ki‐Sang Rha
SJR Q1Clinical and Experimental OtorhinolaryngologyOA

OBJECTIVES: Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) with eosinophilic mucin is relatively rare in Korea. We categorized CRS patients with characteristic eosinophilic mucin into several groups and compared the groups based on their clinicopathological features. METHODS: In total, 52 CRS patients with eosinophilic mucin were enrolled. Based on the presence or absence of an allergy (A) to a fungus or fungal element (F) in the mucin, the patients were divided into four groups: allergic fungal rhinosinusitis (A

Effect of previous strength training episode and retraining on facilitation of skeletal muscle hypertrophy and contractile properties after long-term detraining in rats
Sukho Lee, Kwangseok Hong, Kijeong Kim
SJR Q2Journal of Exercise RehabilitationOA

In the present study, we investigated the effects of previous strength training and retraining following long-term cessation of exercise on muscle mass and contractile properties. Female Sprague-Dawley rats (n=24) aged eight weeks were randomly assigned one of the four groups: control (CON), detraining (DT), training (TR), and retraining (RT). The training regimen consisted of climbing ladder 5×3 sets, once every third day for eight weeks with weight attached to the tail. The weight carried duri

Nan Hee Lee, Hyun Chul Jung, Gina Ok, Sukho Lee
SJR Q1European Journal of Sport Science

This study investigated the acute effects of Kinesio taping (KT) on muscular power, strength, endurance, and self-perceived fatigue level. This is a randomized, partial double-blind, crossover trial. Eighteen healthy adults (7 males [23.86 ± 1.68 years] and 11 females [24.82 ± 3.71 years]) were enrolled in this study. All subjects underwent three different trials which included no tap (NT), placebo tap (PT), and KT. Idividuals were assessed for peak and mean power, muscular strength and enduranc

SJR Q1SustainabilityOA

Wrist-worn activity monitors have become accessible for measuring physical activities, but an activity monitor’s accuracy worn at different placements is not well understood. This study aimed to examine the differences in measurements of heart rates, step counts, and calories estimated from the fitness tracker worn at different locations and the accuracy of Fitbit HR against criterion measures. Thirty-two healthy adults participated in this study. Participants wore Fitbit HR at four different lo

SJR Q2Applied SciencesOA

To examine the efficacy of wild ginseng extract (WGE) on psychomotor and neuromuscular performance recovery following acute eccentric exercise. This study was a double-blind, crossover, and placebo-controlled design with a 14-day washout period. Ten male adults, aged 27.1 ± 4.33 years old, voluntarily participated in the study. Subjects were assigned to one of two parallel conditions (WGE or placebo) in a counterbalanced manner. Subjects consumed two packs of WGE (350 mg/package) or placebo drin

Sukho Lee, Kwangseok Hong, Cordelia R. Rodriguez
IJASS(International Journal of Applied Sports Sciences)OA

The number of obese youth has increased dramatically in recent decades, yet very little data has assessed how children`s lifestyles have led to this increase in obesity. This study investigated possible factors (media viewing, dietary patterns, and levels of physical activity) contributing to the prevalence in obese Hispanic American children. Twenty-four Hispanic boysaged 6-13 years were recruited. Based on initial body mass index screenings, the subjects were assigned to either a control or ob

June-Chul Kim, Sukho Lee
SJR Q1Journal of Functional FoodsOA

Appropriate exercise during pregnancy is known to benefit the fetus. Recently, providing probiotics during pregnancy has been shown to affect offspring positively. However, the effectiveness of exercise coupled with taking probiotics and the effects on the brain and immunity as well as the physical fitness of the offspring remains unclear. In this study, we investigate the effect of low-intensity exercise and probiotic ingestion during pregnancy on offspring mice. C57BL/6J pregnant mice were sub
