15BACKGROUND: Due to the outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), school openings were postponed worldwide as a way to stop its spread. Most classes are moving online, and this includes medical school classes. The authors present their experience of running such online classes with offline clinical clerkship under pandemic conditions, and also present data on student satisfaction, academic performance, and preference. METHODS: The medical school changed every first-year to fourth-year cour
Wnt signaling was implicated in pulmonary and renal fibrosis. Since Wnt activity is enhanced in liver cirrhosis, Wnt signaling may also participate in hepatic fibrogenesis. Thus, we determined if Wnt signaling modulates hepatic stellate cell (HSC) activation and survival. Wnt3A treatment significantly activated human HSCs, while this was inhibited in secreted frizzled-related protein 1 (sFRP1) overexpressing cells. Wnt3A treatment significantly suppressed TRAIL-induced apoptosis in control HSCs
An education program for disclosing medical errors was helpful in improving confidence in medical error disclosure. Extending the program to more diverse scenarios and a more diverse group of physicians is needed.
OSCE score from patient encounters did not reflect the clinical reasoning abilities of the medical students in this study. The evaluation of medical students' clinical reasoning abilities through OSCE should be strengthened.
The current COVID-19 pandemic have affected our daily lifestyle, pressed us with fear of infection, and thereby changed life satisfaction and mental health. The current study investigated influencing cascade of changes during the COVID-19 among the lifestyle, personal attitudes, and life (dis)satisfaction for medical students, using network-based approaches. This cross-sectional survey used self-reports of 454 medical students during June and July of 2020. Depressive mood, anxiety, and intention
SP encounters in an ambulatory care setting, followed by tutor's feedback based on a video recording, can be used for teaching basic clinical ambulatory care skills.
Enhancement of analytic reasoning may improve diagnostic accuracy in novice doctors.
BACKGROUND/AIMS: Clinical features of diffuse infiltrative hepatocellular carcinoma (D-HCC) are distinct from those of mass-forming HCCs, and also dependent on etiologic viruses. Moreover, despite a regular HCC-surveillance in those with chronic liver diseases, patients sometimes present with advanced D-HCCs. Thus, in the present study, we were to assess the risk factors, mode of diagnosis and prognosis of D-HCCs in a hepatitis B virus-endemic area. METHODOLOGY: From January to June 2003, 35 pat
BACKGROUND: Medical students learn and practice various clinical skills during clinical clerkship. Patient encounters are important for developing clinical thinking, communication skills, and professional attitude. We investigated whether the amount of clinical experience during clerkship correlated with students' clinical competency and students' perception of effectiveness of their clerkship on it. METHODS: Fourth year medical students undertook the Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (
