The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the intensity of intra-amniotic inflammation (IAI) and the severity of acute HCA in preterm gestation. METHODS: The relationship between the intensity of IAI and the presence and severity of acute HCA was examined in 412 patients with singleton gestations who delivered within 120 h of transabdominal amnio
In response to a growing demand for simultaneous detection of multiple proteins in a single sample, multiplex immunoassay platforms have emerged at the forefront of proteomic analysis. In particular, detections using graphically encoded hydrogel microparticles synthesized via flow lithography have received attention for integrating a hydrogel, a substrate that can provide enhanced kinetics and high loading capacity, into the bead-based multiplex platform. Currently, the method of microparticle f
OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to determine the frequency and clinical significance of intra-amniotic inflammation in patients with preterm increased uterine contractility with intact membranes but without cervical change. METHODS: Amniocentesis was performed in 132 patients with regular uterine contractions and intact membranes without cervical change. Amniotic fluid was cultured for bacteria and mycoplasmas and assayed for matrix metalloproteinase-8 (MMP-8). Intra-amniotic inflamma
We conclude that 42% of patients with an early spontaneous preterm delivery (< 30 weeks) could be identified by a rapid MMP-8 bedside test at the time of their mid-trimester genetic amniocentesis. The MMP-8 bedside test is a powerful predictor of early spontaneous preterm birth in asymptomatic pregnant women.
Defective deep placentation, involving abnormal transformation of the spiral arteries in the junctional zone of the myometrium, is known to cause significant obstetric complications, such as preeclampsia (PE), fetal growth restriction, and placental infarction leading to fetal death. Serological biomarkers to predict and diagnose PE would help antenatal care and reduce obstetric complications. To discover candidate PE biomarkers, we first performed global proteomic profiling of three pairs of pl
Despite a growing demand for more accessible diagnostic technologies, current methods struggle to simultaneously detect multiple analytes with acceptable sensitivity and portability. Colorimetric assays have been widely used due to their simplicity of signal readout, but the lack of multiplexibility has been a perpetual constraint. Meanwhile, particle-based assays offer multiplex detection by assigning an identity code to each analyte, but they often require lab-based equipment unsuitable for po
Endometriosis is a major cause of infertility, and considering its pathophysiology, it is expected to affect pregnancy outcomes as well. This study aimed to evaluate whether endometriosis is associated with adverse pregnancy outcomes after successful conception. Data from singleton pregnancy deliveries between January 2014 and October 2019 were obtained from the Korean Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service database. We compared the clinical characteristics and adverse pregnancy outcomes
Gastric fluid analysis has 100% specificity in the identification of intra-amniotic infection with Ureaplasma species. However, the detection of Ureaplasma species by culture or PCR in the gastric fluid of neonates at birth did not identify these microorganisms in two-thirds of cases with microbial invasion of the amniotic cavity. Thus, amniotic fluid analysis is superior to that of gastric fluid in the identification of intra-amniotic infection.
The use of synthetic DNA molecules for computing provides various insights to evolutionary computation. A molecular computing algorithm to evolve DNA-encoded genetic patterns has been previously reported in [1], [2]. Here we improve on the previous work by studying the convergence behavior of the molecular evolutionary algorithm in the context of text classification problems. In particular, we study the error reduction behavior of the evolutionary learning algorithm, both theoretically and exper
