배순영 교수의 연구실은 영미문학, 특히 20세기 영국 소설과 성장소설(Bildungsroman)을 중심으로 다국적·다문화적 맥락에서의 정체성 형성과 사회적 억압을 분석합니다. 마더 퀼트(Martha Quest)를 중심으로 한 도리스 레싱의 『자식들의 폭력』 시리즈를 통해 여성 주체의 자아 탐색과 어머니-딸 관계의 갈등을 심층적으로 연구하고 있으며, 식민지 시대와 성별 정체성의 교차점을 다룹니다. 특히 식민지 아프리카와 영국 사회를 배경으로 한 문학적 내러티브를 통해 권력, 성별, 정체성의 복합적 상호작용을 탐구합니다.
