8Background We examined the consumption patterns and the knowledge and awareness of energy drinks to draw up a guideline for energy drink consumption and to give accurate information to college student. Methods Data from 324 subjects (186 males and 138 females) were collected using self-administered questionnaires. The study participants were recruited from the Gyeonggi-do, Seongnam area between March and June 2013. Results The results showed that there was a significant gender-based difference i
BACKGROUND: Dexamethasone is widely used as a systemic corticosteroid to treat and prevent bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) in preterm infants. We evaluated the current epidemiology of dexamethasone use to prevent BPD and analyse the factors associated with the response to dexamethasone in very low birthweight infants using a nationwide database. METHODS: We included very low birthweight infants born between January 2013 and December 2020 with a gestational age of 23-31 weeks using data from the
Aerosol scattering coefficients for three different wavelengths (λ= 450, 550, 700 nm) are measured almost continuously by a nephelometer in Seoul for a period of 13 months (February 2007-February 2008), which includes two weeks break in August 2007 for measurements at Daegwallyeong and YoungJongdo. The mean of the daily average scattering coefficients at λ= 550 nm is 194.1±144.2 Mm-¹ and the minimum and maximum are 14.3 Mm-¹ and 998.1 Mm-¹, respectively. The scattering coefficient shows a gene
Background: Management of hepatic hemangioma (HH) in infancy ranges from close monitoring to surgical resection. We analyzed the clinical characteristics and outcomes of HH according to its treatment options, with particular focus on challenging cases. Methods: Data of patients diagnosed with HHs in their first year of life and followed up for at least 1 year were retrospectively reviewed and divided into treatment and observation groups. Serial imaging results, serum alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) lev
In children with MCE, gastric dysmotility may affect the development of MCE, manifesting as EGG abnormalities. H. pylori infection may also affect GME. However, larger prospective investigations are needed to confirm these findings.
Hemimegalencephaly (HME) is a rare disease characterized by partial or complete hypertrophy of one cerebral hemisphere. It is associated with intractable seizures, developmental delay, hemiparesis, and other neurological symptoms.Tuberous sclerosis (TSC) is a neurocutaneous syndrome that affects various organs, including the heart, brain, skin, kidney, and eyes, and is caused by mutations in TSC1 and TSC2 genes.Herein, we report the case of a patient with TSC and HME who required early neurosurgi
Larger initial ventricle size in antenatal VM was associated with poorer neurodevelopmental outcomes. Normal antenatal findings can obscure postnatal CNS abnormalities. Advanced imaging and postnatal evaluation are essential for timely diagnosis and perinatal counseling and management.
BACKGRUOUND: Endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) are environmental pollutants that may impair maternal and fetal health by disrupting hormonal systems, including the thyroid. Both iodine deficiency and excess are associated with thyroid dysfunction and adverse obstetrical outcomes. However, the combined impacts of EDCs and iodine exposure on maternal-fetal thyroid homeostasis remain undetermined. We established the Investigating Birth and Thyroid Outcomes of Maternal-Fetal Environmental Exposu
