15PURPOSE: Coronary artery disease (CAD) shares several risk factors with abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA). We evaluated the prevalence during transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) and risk factors of AAA in patients with CAD. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 1300 CAD patients were screened from August 2009 to May 2010, and measurement of abdominal aorta size was feasible in 920 patients (71%) at the end of routine TTE. An AAA was defined as having a maximal diameter of ≥30 mm. RESULTS: Of the 920
Clinical factors such as tall stature, lean body mass, obstructive sleep apnea, alcohol or caffeine, smoking, endurance sports, and genetic factors are proposed as risk factors for lone atrial fibrillation (LAF). The KORAF (KORean Atrial Fibrillation) study is a retrospective multicenter registry that enrolled 3,570 consecutive atrial fibrillation (AF) patients. Data on risk factors were available for 2,133 patients, of whom 398 (18.7%) were identified as having LAF. In univariate analysis, pati
BACKGROUND: The ECG is a simple, noninvasive screening method for cardiovascular disease and arrhythmia. The impact of ECG abnormality on mortality is not certain in low-risk populations. To address this, we evaluated the association between ECG abnormality and mortality. METHODS AND RESULTS: We retrospectively assessed baseline ECG and all-cause mortality and cardiovascular mortality in 660 383 patients presenting for medical check-ups. Baseline ECG abnormalities were classified according to th
ILR is useful for detecting syncope-correlated arrhythmia in patients with US. The risk of PM is high in US patients with a history of PAF and any BBB.
The incidence of peri-stent graft infection (PGI) following thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) is low, but the associated mortality rates are extremely high. The diagnosis of this complication can be difficult due to nonspecific symptoms. Here, we report a case of PGI combined with an aorto-esophageal fistula (AEF) diagnosed by computed tomography (CT) and positron emission tomography (PET) imaging after TEVAR. A 50-year-old woman with a history of diabetes mellitus and chronic hemodial
Abstract Background We aimed to investigate differences in hemodynamic parameters and the role of baroreflex sensitivity (BRS) in patients with a history of neurally mediated syncope (NMS) compared with a control group. Methods Hemodynamic parameters and BRS were continuously measured noninvasively using a Finometer at rest and during passive head‐up tilt test (HUT) in patients with a history of NMS (n = 55) and a control group (n = 77). The tilting period was divided into pretest (resting supin
PURPOSE: Several studies have demonstrated that psychiatric disorders such as anxiety, depression and panic attack are associated with syncope, especially vasovagal and unexplained syncope (US). The aim of this study was to compare the prevalence of anxiety and depression between patients with neurally mediated syncope (NMS) and US and to investigate the clinical factors associated with anxiety and depression. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Between January 2009 and March 2010, 383 patients with syncopal
The association between physical activity (PA) and atrial fibrillation (AF) remains unclear. We thus investigated association of PA with the development of AF. Type and duration data for PA were acquired from 211,992 AF-free individuals using the validated Korean version of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire Short From between March 2002 and December 2014. Individuals were divided into four groups according to self-reported PA level and previous international PA guidelines: no PA
Coronary artery calcium score (CACS) is associated with increased risk of atrial fibrillation (AF). However, the relationship between the burden of CACS and extra-coronary calcium and the AF is unclear. This cross-sectional study retrospectively analyzed the data of 143,529 participants (74.9% men; mean age, 41.7 ± 8.6 years) who underwent health examination including non-contrast cardiac CT and electrocardiography, from 2010 to 2018 to evaluate the association between cardiac calcium and AF. AF
We applied cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) for desynchronized heart failure patients. We evaluated clinical outcomes including morbidity, mortality, and echocardiographic parameters in 47 patients with implanted CRT in Korea from October 2005 to May 2013. The combined outcomes of hospitalization from heart failure, heart transplantation and death were the primary end point. Median follow-up period was 17.5 months. The primary outcomes listed above occurred in 10 (21.3%) patients. Two pat

Self-reported current smoking was associated with AA and AF, while self-reported former smoking and cotinine-verified current smoking showed no significant association with AA and AF.

This investigation of adult suicidal behavior and childhood onychophagia among hospitalized psychiatric male veterans suggests that for only personality disorders does childhood non-onychophagia show a significant relationship to adult nonsuicidal behavior. Otherwise, this study indicates that the presence or abscence of childhood onychophagia is not a significant suicidal or nonsuicidal factor among these veterans with a psychotic, neurotic, or personality disorder classification.
