연구실 소개
홍성화 교수의 연구실은 청각 신경생물학과 청각 재활 분야에 초점을 맞추고 있으며, 특히 고막 외 전기청각도법(Extratympanic electrocochleography)을 활용한 청각 장애의 정밀 진단과 청각 피질의 신경가소성 변화를 연구하고 있습니다. 또한 후천성 청각장애 환자 및 청각장애인에서의 시각-청각 교차 모듈성, 고막성 청각장애의 유전자 기반 병태생리학적 기전, 그리고 청각장애인 어린이의 언어 발달과 청각Implant(보청기)를 통한 언어 능력 향상에 관한 종합적 연구를 진행하고 있습니다. 특히 청각장애인과 청각이 있는 가족 간의 의사소통 다리 역할을 하는 다언어·다모odal 의사소통 전략의 유용성에 대해서도 핵심 연구 주제로 삼고 있습니다.

15Extratympanic electrocochleography may play an important role, especially in patients with less definite symptoms, but the diagnosis should also be anchored in the patient's clinical history, symptoms, and audiogram.
In this large study, permanent hearing loss occurred in 16 patients (2.2%). Patients with a mild hearing loss with a good SDS (cochlear type) demonstrated much better prognosis than those with poor SDS (retrocochlear type) or total deafness. In addition, total deafness after surgery had no chance of recovery to preoperative hearing capacity.

The pathology of the organ of Corti followed the pattern of neuroepithelial defects. Hair cells in organs of Corti had degenerated in circling mice at 10 days old, in a time-dependent manner.
