SJR Q1Foot & Ankle InternationalOA

BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study was to determine the sensitivity and specificity of MRI in chronic syndesmosis injury by comparing the arthroscopic findings with MRI findings and to suggest therapeutic guidelines of syndesmotic fixation. METHODS: Between January, 2003, and January, 2004, 20 patients were diagnosed with chronic syndesmosis injury according to syndesmosis widening (>2 mm) on arthroscopic examination. The average age of the patients was 32 years. The minimum followup was 22 (

Radiographic Changes and Clinical Results of Osteochondral Defects of the Talus with and without Subchondral Cysts
Seung Hwan Han, Jin Woo Lee, Dae Young Lee, Eung Shick Kang
SJR Q1Foot & Ankle InternationalOA

BACKGROUND: Subchondral cysts are a type of osteochondral defect of the talus and can be a source of chronic ankle pain. The treatment modality of this cystic lesion is similar to that of other osteochondral defects, but results from previous reports are controversial. Therefore, we compared the clinical results and radiographic changes in small subchondral talar cystic lesions (less than 1.5 cm2) to other noncystic defects after arthroscopic operations without bone grafting. METHODS: The review

SJR Q1Foot & Ankle International

BACKGROUND: Little has been reported about the biologic effect of shock waves on human normal or pathologic tendon tissue. We hypothesized that inflammatory cytokine and MMP production would be down-regulated by shock wave stimulation. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Diseased Achilles tendon tissue and healthy flexor hallucis longus tissue were used. Shock wave treatment was applied to cultured cells at 0.17 mJ/mm(2)energy 250, 500, 1000, and 2000 times. RESULTS: A dose-dependent decrease in cell viabili

SJR Q1Journal of Biomedical Materials Research Part AOA

The properties of regenerated cartilage using bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and poly lactic-co-glycolic acid (PLGA) scaffold composites pretreated with TGF-beta3 were investigated and compared to the non-TGF-beta3 treated MSCs/PLGA composites in a rabbit model. We prepared MSCs/PLGA scaffold composites and pretreated it with TGF-beta3 for 3 weeks prior to transplantation. Then, composites were transplanted to the osteochondral defect in the rabbit knee. After 12 weeks of tran

SJR Q1The American Journal of Sports MedicineOA

Background: Arthroscopic bone marrow stimulation (BMS) is considered the first-line treatment for osteochondral lesions of the talus (OLTs). However, the long-term stability of the clinical success of BMS remains unclear. Purpose: To investigate the long-term clinical outcomes among patients who underwent BMS for OLT and to identify prognostic factors for the need for revision surgery. Study Design: Case series; Level of evidence, 4. Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed on 202 ankles

Ossicles associated with chronic pain around the malleoli of the ankle
Seung Hwan Han, Woo Jin Choi, Su Ram Kim, Sung‐Jae Kim, Jin Woo Lee
Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery - British VolumeOA

We undertook a retrospective review of 24 arthroscopic procedures in patients with symptomatic ossicles around the malleoli of the ankle. Most of the patients had a history of injury and localised tenderness in the area coinciding with the radiological findings. Contrast-enhanced three-dimensional fast-spoiled gradient-echo MRI was performed and the results compared with the arthroscopic findings. An enhanced signal surrounding soft tissue corresponding to synovial inflammation and impingement w

SJR Q1PLoS ONEOA

Inertial measurement unit (IMU)-based gait analysis can be used to quantitatively analyze the bilateral coordination and gait asymmetry (GA). The purpose of this study was to investigate changes in bilateral coordination and GA due to gait speed using an IMU based gait analysis and identify spatiotemporal factors affecting bilateral coordination and GA. Eighty healthy adults (40 men and 40 women) participated in the study. The mean age was 26.2 years, and the mean body mass index was 22.8 kg/m2.

SJR Q1Arthroscopy The Journal of Arthroscopic and Related SurgeryOA

PURPOSE: To compare the results of bone marrow stimulation (BMS) versus autologous osteochondral transfer (AOT) as primary surgical option for large cystic osteochondral lesion of talus (OLT) and to further distinguish factors associated with clinical failures and overall survival. METHODS: ) who underwent either primary BMS or AOT between January 2001 and January 2016 with a minimum follow-up of 36 months. Lesion surface area and volume were measured on magnetic resonance imaging. Clinical outc

Is the Anterior Tibial Artery Safe During Ankle Arthroscopy?
Kwang-Hyun Son, Jaeho Cho, Jin Woo Lee, Kyu‐Sung Kwack, Seung Hwan Han
SJR Q1The American Journal of Sports Medicine

BACKGROUND: Pseudoaneurysm of the anterior tibial artery (ATA) after ankle arthroscopy is an uncommon complication but can cause unexpected consequences. However, its contributing factor is not fully understood. HYPOTHESIS: Anatomic factors, such as ATA variations and the distance between the ATA and joint capsule, may contribute to the occurrence of pseudoaneurysm. STUDY DESIGN: Case series; Level of evidence, 4. METHODS: The magnetic resonance images and medical records of 358 ankle cases were

SJR Q1International Wound JournalOA

Chronic diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) are a common problem in patients with diabetes and are often difficult to treat. The application of newly developed dressing material in patients with chronic DFUs has been reported to be effective. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the usefulness of allogeneic keratinocyte treatment for chronic DFUs. We performed weekly allogeneic keratinocyte treatment for up to 12 weeks in 71 patients with intractable DFUs. We investigated healing rate, wound-healin
