이성진 교수의 연구실은 신경생물학과 임상 신경과학을 융합한 연구를 중심으로, 도파민성 신경세포의 사멸 메커니즘과 신경 회복에 기여하는 분자적 기전을 규명하고자 합니다. 특히 질병 관련 단백질 변형(예: nitration)과 세포 사멸 경로의 상호작용을 중심으로 신경퇴행성 질환의 치료 전략을 모색하고 있으며, 뇌의 시냅스 기능 조절에 관여하는 단백질들(예: neuronal pentraxins)의 기능 또한 탐구하고 있습니다. 이와 더불어, 뇌의 신경 회로 기능 조절과 관련된 분자 기전을 이해하기 위해 세포 및 분자 생물학적 기법을 적극적으로 활용하고 있습니다.

Aged or damaged RBCs are effectively removed from the blood circulation by Kupffer cells in the liver, but little is known regarding the mechanism of the clearance process.
