SJR Q1PLoS ONEOA

Acute kidney injury (AKI) after pediatric cardiac surgery is associated with high morbidity and mortality. Modifiable risk factors for postoperative AKI including perioperative anesthesia-related parameters were assessed. The authors conducted a single-center, retrospective cohort study of 220 patients (aged 10 days to 19 years) who underwent congenital cardiac surgery between January and December 2012. The incidence of AKI within 7 days postoperatively was determined using the Kidney Disease: I

Comparison of Supraclavicular and Infraclavicular Brachial Plexus Block: A Systemic Review of Randomized Controlled Trials
Sun-Kyung Park, Su‐Young Lee, Won Ho Kim, Han-Seul Park, Young‐Jin Lim, Jae-Hyon Bahk
SJR Q1Anesthesia & Analgesia

BACKGROUND: Supraclavicular (SC) and infraclavicular (IC) brachial plexus block (BPB) are commonly used for upper extremity surgery. Recent clinical studies have compared the effect of SC- and IC-BPB, but there have been controversies over spread of sensory blockade in each of the 4 peripheral nerve branches of brachial plexus. METHODS: This study included a systemic review, using the Medline and EMBASE database from their inceptions through March 2016. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) compar

The Compounds Contributing to the Greenness of Green Tea
Lifei Wang, Seung-Kook Park, S.‐C. Park, Jin‐Oh Chung, Joo-Hyun Baik, Sun-Kyung Park, Sun-Kyung Park
SJR Q1Journal of Food Science

ABSTRACT: Color is one of the determinant sensory qualities for green tea. As cold tea beverages in clear bottles are getting more popular, the traditional evaluation methods are gradually being altered to attach more importance to the tea infusion color. For quality control, experiments were carried out on 10 green tea samples to investigate the compounds influencing the colors of dry tea leaves and infusions. By calculating the coefficients of determination between the greenness (expressed in

Ultrasound-Assisted Versus Landmark-Guided Spinal Anesthesia in Patients With Abnormal Spinal Anatomy: A Randomized Controlled Trial

SJR Q1Anesthesia & Analgesia

BACKGROUND: Spinal anesthesia using a surface landmark-guided technique can be challenging in patients with anatomical alterations of the lumbar spine; however, it is unclear whether using ultrasonography can decrease the technical difficulties in these populations. We assessed whether an ultrasound-assisted technique could reduce the number of needle passes required for block success compared with the landmark-guided technique in patients with abnormal spinal anatomy. METHODS: Forty-four patien

Hypopigmentation and subcutaneous fat, muscle atrophy after local corticosteroid injection
Sun-Kyung Park, Yun Suk Choi, Hyun Jung Kim
SJR Q1Korean journal of anesthesiologyOA

Corticosteroid injection is frequently used for the control of inflammation of the joint, tendon, and ligament. Compared to systemic corticosteroid injection, the incidence of complications after local corticosteroid injection is extremely low with an estimated risk of less than 1% [1]. A previously 46-year-old woman, who had a splint for approximately one month due to right wrist pain caused by a car accident in April 2012, visited an orthopaedic clinic due to continuing pain after one month

Deep vs. moderate neuromuscular blockade during laparoscopic surgery
Sun-Kyung Park, Young Son, Seokha Yoo, Taeyoon Lim, Won Ho Kim, Jin‐Tae Kim
SJR Q1European Journal of Anaesthesiology

Deep block was associated with excellent or good surgical rating more frequently than moderate block. However, this finding was not consistent on subgroup analyses based on frequencies of assessment of surgical conditions and abdominal pressure. Further studies are required to address the heterogeneity and power shortage demonstrated by the trial sequential analysis.

Ultrasound-guided versus conventional lung recruitment manoeuvres in laparoscopic gynaecological surgery
Sun-Kyung Park, Hyojun Yang, Seokha Yoo, Won Ho Kim, Young‐Jin Lim, Jae-Hyon Bahk, Jin‐Tae Kim
SJR Q1European Journal of Anaesthesiology

BACKGROUND: Pneumoperitoneum and steep Trendelenburg position promote the formation of pulmonary atelectasis during laparoscopic gynaecological surgery. OBJECTIVE: To determine whether lung ultrasound-guided alveolar recruitment manoeuvres could reduce peri-operative atelectasis compared with conventional recruitment manoeuvres during laparoscopic gynaecological surgery. DESIGN: Randomised controlled trial. SETTING: Tertiary hospital, Republic of Korea, from August 2018 to January 2019. PATIENTS

SJR Q1Regional Anesthesia & Pain Medicine

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Epidural analgesia is the gold standard for post-thoracotomy pain management and can be started before or after surgical incision. This systematic review and meta-analysis investigated whether pre-emptive epidural analgesia before thoracotomy incision reduces acute and chronic post-thoracotomy pain in adults compared with epidural analgesia after incision. METHODS: We searched databases including MEDLINE, Embase, and CENTRAL for randomized controlled trials comparing e

SJR Q1Anesthesiology

BACKGROUND: Electroencephalogram burst suppression can be associated with postoperative delirium; however, the results of relevant studies are discrepant. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to assess the association between intraoperative burst suppression and postoperative delirium in adult surgical patients. METHODS: PubMed, MEDLINE, Embase, Google Scholar, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials were systematically searched and updated in May 2023. The authors inclu

Many pharmacologic agents were investigated for the effect to prevent delirium. We aimed to comprehensively compare the effect of the pharmacological interventions to prevent postoperative delirium. A Bayesian network meta-analysis of randomized trials was performed using random effects model. PubMed, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, and Embase were searched on 20 January 2021. SJR Q1Regional Anesthesia & Pain Medicine

INTRODUCTION: Limited non-opioid analgesic options are available for managing postoperative pain after renal transplantation. We aimed to investigate whether the unilateral anterior quadratus lumborum (QL) block would reduce postoperative opioid consumption after living-donor renal transplantation in the context of multimodal analgesia. METHODS: Eighty-eight adult patients undergoing living-donor renal transplantation were randomly allocated to receive the unilateral anterior QL block (30 mL of

Comparison of bupivacaine plus intrathecal fentanyl and bupivacaine alone for spinal anesthesia with intravenous dexmedetomidine sedation: a randomized, double-blind, noninferiority trial

SJR Q1Regional Anesthesia & Pain Medicine

Background and objectives Fentanyl is widely used as an intrathecal adjuvant to local anesthetics to enhance the duration of spinal anesthesia. Recent evidence suggests that intravenous dexmedetomidine prolongs the duration of spinal anesthesia. This noninferiority study evaluated whether bupivacaine alone could provide a noninferior duration of block compared with bupivacaine and fentanyl when intravenous dexmedetomidine was administered intraoperatively. Methods Fifty-six patients scheduled fo
