15PURPOSE: To compare clinical and radiographic results of arthroscopic rotator cuff repair (ARCR) with biceps rerouting (BR) and those of conventional repair for semirigid, large-to-massive rotator cuff tear. METHODS: We prospectively collected data of 111 patients who underwent either ARCR + BR (n = 59, group 1) or only ARCR (n = 52, group 2) for semirigid, large-to-massive rotator cuff tear between January 2016 and December 2018. We comparatively analyzed both groups with respect to preoperativ
BACKGROUND: Few comparative studies have reported on the use of biologic grafts for irreparable massive rotator cuff tears. The purpose of this study was to assess the results of arthroscopic bridging graft in irreparable massive rotator cuff tears using an autogenic long head of biceps tendon (LHBT) or an allogenic dermal patch (ADP). METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed 24 patients treated using the LHBT (group I) and eight patients with complete rupture of the LHBT treated using an ADP (group
Level III, case-control study.
Proper amount of deltoid lengthening (mean, 2.3 cm) and inferior glenosphere overhang (mean, 2.9 mm) should be chosen for the better outcomes, while the center of rotation should be individualized according to patient characteristics in the Korean population.
Background: Previous studies on subacromial spacer (SAS) insertion have been limited to case series that did not compare the effectiveness of this technique with other techniques. Hypothesis: Outcomes after SAS insertion for the treatment of irreparable massive rotator cuff tears (IMRCTs) will be similar to those of other techniques. Study Design: Cohort study; Level of evidence, 3. Methods: This retrospective study was based on data collected from patients who underwent correction of IMRCTs bet
PURPOSE: To compare the effects of allogeneic dermal fibroblasts (ADFs) and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) on tendon-to-bone healing in a rabbit model of chronic rotator cuff tear. METHODS: ADFs plus fibrin injection in the left shoulder and PRP plus fibrin in the right shoulder. The relative expression of the COL1, COL3, BMP2, SCX, SOX9, and ACAN genes was assessed at 4 weeks (group A) and 12 weeks (group B) after repair. Histologic and biomechanical evaluations of tendon-to-bone healing at 12 week
PURPOSE: To determine the differences in the scar tissue formation during the healing of the repaired retracted cuff tear from that of the nonretracted tear. METHODS: Eighteen right rabbit shoulders received a 1-cm transverse cuff incision over the footprint to simulate "nonretracted cuff tears" before the transosseous repairs (group A). A 1-cm tendinous portion was excised from 18 left shoulders to create defects to simulate "retracted cuff tears" before repairing the defects (group B). At week
Numerous causes of hypertrophic osteoarthropathy (HOA) have been reported. Commonly, secondary osteoarthropathy accompanies pulmonary diseases such as carcinoma of the lung, pleural tumors, lung abscesses, and bronchiectasis. However, HOA in inflammatory bowel disease is a rare complication. There are only a few reports of secondary HOA with Crohn's disease. Our purpose was to report another case of HOA in Crohn's disease. We describe a case of a 27-year-old man with underlying Crohn's disease p
BACKGROUND: The purposes of the present study were (1) to create a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-based classification system for septic shoulder arthritis and to show the results of arthroscopic debridement based on the classification in eradicating the infection, and (2) to determine the distribution of the Gächter stages, which are determined on the basis of arthroscopic findings only, in each grade of the novel classification system. METHODS: The present study included 31 patients who unde
PURPOSE: This study aimed to compare the clinical outcomes between single on-lay and double on-lay subpectoral biceps tenodesis (SPBT) using all-suture type anchor in patients with concomitant long head of the biceps tendon (LHBT) lesions and rotator cuff tears. METHODS: The study included 130 patients who underwent SPBT using all-suture type anchor and arthroscopic rotator cuff repair. Single and double anchor on-lay fixations were performed in 69 patients (group A) and 61 patients (group B), r
Background: There is a lack of studies about serum and tissue vitamin D levels of the rotator cuff muscle on muscle power, fatty degeneration, and healing failure after rotator cuff repair (RCR). Furthermore, no studies have evaluated vitamin D receptor proteins in the rotator cuff that show a close association with serum vitamin D levels. Purpose: To evaluate the correlations between serum vitamin D and tissue vitamin D as well as perioperative variables of arthroscopic RCR. Study Design: Case
