Satellite ATM networks: a survey
Ian F. Akyildiz, Seong‐Ho Jeong
SJR Q1IEEE Communications Magazine

Satellite ATM networks have significant advantages over terrestrial ATM networks. Satellites provide unique advantages such as remote coverage with rapid deployment, distance insensitivity, bandwidth on demand, immunity to terrestrial disasters, and offering broadband links. Satellite ATM networks will play an important role in the rapidly evolving information infrastructure. However, there are several obstacles which need to be overcome so that satellite ATM networks can operate in full service

SJR Q1International Wound JournalOA

Diabetic foot ulcers are the main cause of non-traumatic lower extremity amputation. The objective of this study was to evaluate the risk factors for major amputation in diabetic foot patients. Eight hundred and sixty diabetic patients were admitted to the diabetic wound centre of the Korea University Guro Hospital for foot ulcers between January 2010 and December 2013. Among them, 837 patients were successfully monitored until complete healing. Ulcers in 809 patients (96·7%) healed without majo

SJR Q1International Wound JournalOA

A large number of silver-based dressings are commonly used in the management of chronic wounds that are at risk of infection, including diabetic foot ulcers. However, there are still controversies regarding the toxicity of silver dressings on wound healing. The purpose of this study was to objectively test the cytotoxicity of silver dressings on human diabetic fibroblasts. Human diabetic fibroblasts were obtained from the foot skin of four diabetic foot ulcer patients and cultured. The effect of

SJR Q3International Journal of Stem CellsOA

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: studies. However, no clinical studies have reported its effect in diabetic patients who commonly experience compromised tissue perfusion, regardless of the status of intravascular blood flow. The present piloting study was designed to clinically examine the possibility of SVF cell injection to accelerate microcirculation, particularly in ischemic diabetic feet. METHODS: week visit. RESULTS: values increased from 31.3±7.4 before injection to 46.4±8.2 mmHg at 12 weeks af

Current studies of Panax ginseng (or Korean ginseng) have demonstrated that it has various biological effects, including angiogenesis, immunostimulation, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effects. Therefore, we hypothesised that P. ginseng may also play an important role in wound healing. However, few studies have been conducted on the wound-healing effects of P. ginseng. Thus, the purpose of this in vitro pilot study was to determine the effects of P. ginseng on the activities of fibroblasts,

An Algorithmic Approach for Reconstruction of Burn Alopecia
Seong‐Ho Jeong, Sang-Hwan Koo, Seung‐Kyu Han, Woo Kyung Kim
SJR Q2Annals of Plastic Surgery

Although various methods for reconstruction of burn alopecia have been described in case reports and small case series, a comprehensive comparison of these methods has not been performed. The purpose of this study was to assess the appropriateness of the clinical indications for the various reconstructive methods for burn alopecia and suggest an algorithm for individualized reconstruction. A review of 83 patients who underwent reconstruction for burn alopecia between 1995 and 2007 was conducted.

SJR Q2Annals of Plastic Surgery

In covering wounds, efforts should include use of the safest and least invasive methods with a goal of achieving optimal functional and cosmetic outcome. The recent development of advanced technology in wound healing has triggered the use of cells and/or biological dermis to improve wound healing conditions. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the effects of fibroblast-seeded artificial dermis on wound healing efficacy.Ten nude mice were used in this study. Four full-thickness 6-mm punch wo

Radical resection of a venous malformation in middle finger and immediate reconstruction using medial plantar artery perforator flap: A case report
Ja Hea Gu, Seong‐Ho Jeong
SJR Q1Microsurgery

Reconstruction of complex defects resulting from radical resection of venous malformation occurring in other digits except the thumb is challenging because a thin and durable flap is required to achieve optimal reconstruction without functional impairment. Here, we describe an alternative reconstruction technique in a young patient. A 15-year-old female patient with venous malformation of the left 3rd finger was treated by radical excision of the tumor including involved skin, distal phalanx, an

Analysis of Self-Inflicted Lacerations to the Wrist: A Multi-Disciplinary Approach to Treating
Seong‐Ho Jeong, Ja Hea Gu, Woo Kyung Kim
SJR Q3The Journal of Hand Surgery (Asian-Pacific Volume)

Background: Self-inflicted wrist lacerations have the potential to lead to crippling sequelae and repeated suicidal attempt. To obtain good results, we have treated self-inflicted wrist lacerations using a multidisciplinary team - emergency, hand surgery, psychiatry, and rehabilitation. This study aims to review features of this type of injuries and suggest multidisciplinary team approach as an optimal treatment. Methods: Our multidisciplinary approach can be summarized as follows: initial evalu

SJR Q2Annals of Plastic Surgery

Many clinical trials have shown the effectiveness of platelet releasates on diabetic wound healing, but large volumes of blood must be aspirated from patients and a platelet separator is required. This study was undertaken to investigate the potential of blood bank platelet concentrate (BBPC) for accelerating diabetic wound healing. Platelet-derived growth factor-BB (PDGF-BB) contents in BBPC were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay in vitro, and the in vivo study involved comparing

Reconstruction of extensive abdominal wall defect using an eccentric perforator‐based pedicled anterolateral thigh flap: A case report
Joonchul Jang, Seong‐Ho Jeong, Seung‐Kyu Han, Woo‐Kyung Kim
SJR Q1Microsurgery

Reconstruction of extensive abdominal wall defects is a challenge for reconstructive surgeons. In this report, a case of reconstruction of a large abdominal wall defect using an eccentric perforator-based pedicled anterolateral thigh (ALT) flap is presented. A 30-year-old man presented with recurrent desmoid-type fibromatosis in the abdominal wall. The recurrent tumor was radically excised, and the en bloc excision resulted in a full-thickness, large abdominal wall defect (25 cm × 20 cm). An ecc

Two-Staged Tendon Reconstruction in Flexor Tendon Ruptures Secondary to Fracture of the Hamate Hook
Seong‐Ho Jeong, Ja Hea Gu, Seung‐Kyu Han, Wookyung Kim
SJR Q2Annals of Plastic Surgery

We report a case of 2-staged reconstruction of flexor tendons ruptured spontaneously by attrition. A 49-year-old man presented with inability to flex the ring and little fingers of his left hand. Preoperative computed tomographic scans revealed fracture of the hamate hook. At the time of the operation, both the flexor superficialis and profundus of the little finger and the flexor profundus tendon of the ring finger were ruptured adjacent to the fracture site of the hamate. Because the flexor te

Versatile Use of Submental Tissue for Reconstruction of Perioral Soft Tissue Defects
Seong‐Ho Jeong, Byung Il Lee
SJR Q2Journal of Craniofacial Surgery

To obtain optimum aesthetic result, perioral soft tissue defects require reconstruction using similar tissue. The submental area has very similar characteristics to perioral soft tissue and consists of thin, pliable tissue with a perfect color match. Therefore, we have used submental tissues for reconstruction of perioral soft tissue defects and application of the techniques, and results are discussed in this article. Between February 2001 and April 2008, 14 perioral soft tissue reconstruction p
