이성준 교수의 연구실은 대사질환, 특히obesity와 인슐린 저항성과 관련된 대사 조절 메커니즘을 중심으로 연구를 진행하고 있습니다. 주로 식물성 천연물(녹차 유래 발효 추출물, 우르솔산, 타우린 등)과 장내 미생물, 염증 반응, 그리고 장에서 분비되는 호르몬(GLP-1 등)의 기능을 통해 체내 에너지 대사 균형을 회복시키는 생물학적 경로를 규명하고자 합니다. 특히, 장의 이색 수용체(ectopic olfactory receptors)와 대사 조절의 연관성 등 새로운 분자 기전을 탐색하는 데도 주력하고 있습니다.

Dietary flavonoids have various biological functions. However, their cellular transport mechanisms are largely unknown. We have determined that the multidrug and toxic compound extrusion transporter-1 (MATE1) is a membrane transporter for flavonoids and has a high affinity for quercetin.
