15BACKGROUND: Lumbar decompressive surgery is a standard surgical technique for lumbar spinal stenosis. Many new surgical techniques have been introduced, ranging from open surgery to minimally invasive procedures. Minimally invasive surgical techniques are preferred because patients experience less postoperative pain and shorter hospital stays. However, the success rate of minimally invasive techniques have been controversial. The object of this study was to assess the feasibility of spinal decom
Lumbar spinal fusions have been performed for spinal stability, pain relief and improved function in spinal stenosis, scoliosis, spinal fractures, infectious conditions and other lumbar spinal problems. The success of lumbar spinal fusion depends on multifactors, such as types of bone graft materials, levels and numbers of fusion, spinal instrumentation, electrical stimulation, smoking and some drugs such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). From January 2000 to December 2001, 88 co
Surgical decompression and antibiotic therapy are the treatments of choice for patients with spinal epidural abscess (SEA). Surgical treatment included decompression, evacuation of abscess, and debridement. Recently, minimal invasive surgery has been introduced more widely, and biportal endoscopic spinal surgery have shown satisfactory clinical outcomes compared with traditional open surgery. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of biportal endoscopic spinal surgery for the tre
Although postoperative delirium is a common complication in older patients, few papers have described risk factors after of spinal surgery. The purpose of this study was to analyze various perioperative risk factors for delirium after spinal surgery in older patients. This study was performed on retrospective data collection with prospective design. We analyzed 138 patients over 65 years of age who underwent spinal surgery. Preoperative factors were cognitive function (Mini-Mental State Examinat
This report describes a technique for removal of a broken interlocking intramedullary nail with a small diameter and narrow hollow using a modified smooth guide wire.
One-third of the patients with LSS had a NP component. The presence of radicular pain correlated strongly with NP. The severity of leg pain and ODI score were also closely related to a NP component. This data may prove useful to understanding the pain characteristics of LSS and in better designing clinical trials for NP treatment in patients with LSS.
PURPOSE: To find out the factors suggesting lumbar segmental instability in patients with degenerative spondylolisthesis (DS) on conventional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). METHODS: Ninety-four patients with DS who underwent decompression surgery with or without fusion were selected. Patient demographics and findings on simple radiographs and MRI were analyzed. We divided patients into two groups by the presence of lumbar instability on simple standing plain radiographs and measured degenerat

This is the first report of a Si/SiGe resonant interband tunneling diodes (RITDs) on silicon substrates grown by the chemical vapor deposition process. The nominal RITD structure forms two quantum wells created by sharp delta-doping planes which provide for a resonant tunneling condition through the intrinsic spacer. The vapor phase doping technique was used to achieve abrupt degenerate doping profiles at higher substrate temperatures than previous reports using low-temperature molecular beam ep
ACDF in cervical foraminal stenosis was a useful surgical option to improve clinical outcomes and widen the foraminal dimension. The foraminal dimension was negatively correlated with the arm pain. Restoration of posterior disk height was necessary to widen the foraminal dimension, whereas increased lordosis of the fusion segment did not help to widen the foraminal dimension.
Kyphoplasty is advantageous over vertebroplasty in terms of better kyphosis correction and diminished risk of cement extravasations. Literature described cement leakage causing neurological injury mainly after vertebroplasty procedure; only a few case reports show cement leakage with kyphoplasty without neurological injury or proper cause of leakage. We present a report two cases of osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture treated with kyphoplasty and developed cement leakage causing signific
MRI with STIR sequencing exhibited a multitude of benefits in the exact identification of acute lesions and hidden lesions. Because of the high rate of misdiagnosis using standard plain radiographs and CT scans of the spine for OVCFs, MRI with STIR sequencing should be considered before cement augmentation procedures. Moreover, in cases with multiple lesions or severe osteoporosis, the importance of MRI should be further emphasized.
