15In Brief The purpose of this pilot study was to compare proliferation, collagen synthesis, and growth factor production, which are important contributing factors for wound healing, of the bone marrow stromal cells (BSCs) with those of dermal fibroblasts in vitro. Cultured human BSCs and dermal fibroblasts from the same patients were seeded in 96-well culture plates. At 1, 3, and 5 days postincubating, cell proliferation, collagen synthesis, and secretion of basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF),
Background: No study has yet assessed the effect of medial open-wedge high tibial osteotomy (MOWHTO) on the patellofemoral joint according to postoperative alignment. Purpose: To evaluate the effect of MOWHTO on the patellofemoral joint according to postoperative alignment by comparing the cartilage status before and after surgery and assessing the clinical and radiological outcomes. Study Design: Cohort study; Level of evidence, 3. Methods: A total of 135 patients who underwent MOWHTO were retr
BACKGROUND: The purpose of this retrospective study was to assess the clinical and radiographic outcomes of large and massive rotator tears treated with arthroscopic complete repair with a posterior interval slide compared with partial repair without a posterior interval slide at a minimum follow-up of 5 years. METHODS: This study included 58 patients with large and massive rotator cuff tears that were unable to be treated with arthroscopic complete repair with an anterior interval slide and mar
BACKGROUND: The two major concerns in skin grafting are poor color match in the recipient sites and donor-site morbidity. A dermis graft, which is a de-epithelialized split-thickness skin graft, was used to minimize these problems. The important aspects of this method involve the immediate return of the epidermis to the donor site and the restoration of the epidermis portion of the recipient site by inducing epithelization from the adjacent skin. METHODS: From April of 2001 to March of 2004, the
Background: Concomitant full-thickness tear of the subscapularis tendon is often neglected during primary posterosuperior rotator cuff repair, and its significance has not been investigated by any previous clinical study. Purpose: To investigate (1) the clinical and radiological outcomes of revision arthroscopic rotator cuff repair and (2) the number of neglected concomitant subscapularis full-thickness tears in the revision of posterosuperior rotator cuff retears and their structural integrity
BACKGROUND: There is no research on incomplete footprint coverage with single-row repair related to bone marrow stimulation (BMS) in large to massive rotator cuff tears (RCTs). PURPOSE/HYPOTHESIS: The purpose was to compare the clinical results and structural integrity between BMS and non-BMS groups that underwent arthroscopic repair of large to massive rotator cuff tears with <50% footprint coverage. It was hypothesized that both groups would exhibit improved clinical outcomes at 2 years after
PURPOSE: To investigate whether subscapularis integrity and compensatory teres, minor hypertrophy is associated with maintaining relatively good function and tolerable pain levels during non-operative treatment. METHODS: This study included 108 patients with irreparable, massive rotator cuff tears involving at least two tendons and stage III or IV muscle hypotrophy and fatty infiltration on oblique sagittal magnetic resonance imaging, in which even a partial repair does not seem feasible. All su
BACKGROUND: Tardy ulnar nerve palsy is a common late complication of traumatic cubitus valgus deformity. Whether both problems can be corrected together, safely and effectively, in a single surgical procedure remains unknown. QUESTIONS/PURPOSES: We therefore reviewed a patient cohort having this combined surgery and compared preoperatively and at a minimum of 24 months postoperatively (1) active elbow ROM; (2) radiographic correction of the cubitus valgus deformity of the preoperative and postop
PURPOSE: To determine how intraoperative assessment (engagement test) may affect recurrent dislocation rate and to compare the clinical outcomes, recurrence rates, and presence of on-/off-track conditions between cases that received arthroscopic Bankart repair alone (nonengaged Hill-Sachs lesion) and Bankart repair with remplissage (engaged Hill-Sachs lesion). METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed 213 patients who underwent arthroscopic Bankart repair alone (186 patients with nonengaging lesions,
BACKGROUND: No study has investigated the treatment outcomes of isolated subscapularis tears with advanced fatty infiltration and tear progression to the supraspinatus tendon. PURPOSE: To assess the natural progression of isolated subscapularis tears with advanced fatty infiltration and compare clinical outcomes between nonoperative and operative treatment. STUDY DESIGN: Cohort study; Level of evidence, 3. METHODS: This study included 52 patients who received either operative (group A) or nonope
of the knee, including abrasion arthroplasty 4) , osteochondral autografting 5,6) , autologous chondrocyte implantation 7) , and microfracture.Microfracture is indicated for focal full-thickness loss of articular cartilage in a weight bearing area between the femur and the tibia or an area of contact between the patella and the trochlea. It is a technically simple, safe, and cost-effective treatment option for focal articular cartilage lesions of the knee.Although this technique may provide pract

BACKGROUND: No study has evaluated whether best-fit circles based on glenoids with defects accurately represent normal inferior glenoids before injury. PURPOSE: To investigate whether the best-fit circles on the affected side with a glenoid defect can accurately represent native glenoids before injury. STUDY DESIGN: Cohort study (diagnosis); Level of evidence, 3. METHODS: This retrospective study included 58 patients with unilateral recurrent anterior shoulder instability. First, we compared the
PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to compare clinical and radiological outcomes after arthroscopic repair of two different rotator cuff tear configurations: anterosuperior rotator cuff tear and rotator cuff tears with subscapularis involvement. It was hypothesized that, although both tear configurations would show significant improvement in clinical outcomes after arthroscopic repair, the rotator cuff tears with subscapularis involvement where the anterior rotator cable maintains its integr
