SJR Q2The Korean Journal of Internal MedicineOA

Background/Aims: Mutations of the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and Kirsten rat sarcoma viral oncogene (KRAS) are important in the pathogenesis of lung cancer, and recent reports have revealed racial and geographical differences in mutation expression. Methods: This study was conducted to investigate the prevalence of EGFR and KRAS mutations and their correlation with clinical variables in Korean patients with adenocarcinoma of the lung. Formalin-fixed adenocarcinoma specimens from 104

SJR Q1Journal of Occupational Health

OBJECTIVES: The present study was designed to identify the association between work hours and obesity in Korean adult manual and nonmanual workers, and to determine whether there is a gender difference in this association. METHODS: The study was conducted using Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey data collected between 2007 and 2010. Individuals aged below 25 or over 64 years, pregnant women, part-time workers, soldiers, housewives and students were excluded. The total number

SJR Q1International Archives of Occupational and Environmental HealthOA

PURPOSE: Sleep disturbances are prevalent in firefighters, but the relationship between patterns of shift work and sleep disturbances has not yet been investigated. Here, this relationship has been evaluated in Korean firefighters. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted using an online questionnaire, which captured demographic, psychosocial and work-related characteristics. Sleep disturbance was assessed using the insomnia severity index (ISI). The relationship between insomnia and work-

OBJECTIVES: The job of firefighting can cause lumbar burden and low back pain. This study aimed to identify the association between age and lumbar intervertebral disc degeneration and whether the association differs between field and administrative (non-field) firefighters. METHODS: Subjects were selected using a stratified random sampling method. Firefighters were stratified by geographic area, gender, age and type of job. First, 25 fire stations were randomly sampled considering regional distr

Estimation of Maximal Oxygen Uptake without Exercise Testing in Korean Healthy Adult Workers
Tae Won Jang, Shin‐Goo Park, Hyoung‐Ryoul Kim, Jung-Man Kim, Young‐Seoub Hong, Byoung-Gwon Kim
SJR Q2The Tohoku Journal of Experimental MedicineOA

Maximal oxygen uptake is generally accepted as the most valid and reliable index of cardiorespiratory fitness and functional aerobic capacity. The exercise test for measuring maximal oxygen uptake is unsuitable for screening tests in public heath examinations, because of the potential risks of exercise exertion and time demands. We designed this study to determine whether work-related physical activity is a potential predictor of maximal oxygen uptake, and to develop a maximal oxygen uptake equa

SJR Q1Safety and Health at WorkOA

This cross-sectional study assessed the sleep quality using the ActiGraph and investigated the relationship between the parameters of sleep assessment and the type of shift work in Korean firefighters. The participants were 359 firefighters: 65 day workers (control group) and 294 shift workers (shift work group: 77 firefighters with 3-day shift, 72 firefighters with 6-day shift, 65 firefighters with 9-day shift, and 80 firefighters with 21-day shift). Sleep assessments were performed using the A

Circadian Rhythm of Wrist Temperature among Shift Workers in South Korea: A Prospective Observational Study
Tae Won Jang, Hyunjoo Kim, Suk-Hoon Kang, Sang-Hyo Choo, In Seok Lee, Kyung‐Hwa Choi
SJR Q2International Journal of Environmental Research and Public HealthOA

Background: Human body temperature varies with circadian rhythm. To determine the effect of shift work on the circadian rhythm of the distal-skin temperature, wrist temperatures were measured. Methods: Wrist-skin temperatures were measured by an iButton® Temperature Logger. It was measured every 3 min for two and eight consecutive working days in the day and shift workers, respectively. Mesor, amplitude, and acrophase were measured by Cosinor analysis. Results: The shift-worker amplitude dropped

Working hours and the regulations for night shift workers
Tae Won Jang
SJR Q2Annals of Occupational and Environmental MedicineOA

There are several types of shift work in Korea: rotating shift, 24-hour shift, day-night shift, fixed night work, and.so on. As a result of analyzing the 8th Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey and the 6th Korean Working Condition Survey, Korean shift workers accounted for 11.6%-13.9% of wage workers. Weekly working hours of shift workers were 57.69 ± 1.73 (24-hours shift) and 49.97 ± 0.67 (fixed night shift), which were significantly longer than day workers. To prevent health

SJR Q1Journal of Occupational Health

OBJECTIVES: Long work hours and overwork may increase the cardiovascular load of workers. But long work hours and overwork are not the same. Cardiovascular overload from working is dependent on the physical demand of the work and the worker's physical fitness, as well as the working hours. This cross-sectional study was designed to identify the association between overwork and cerebrocardiovascular disease, taking into account the physical demand of work, physical fitness, and work hours. Work-Fitness Evaluation for Shift Work Disorder
Tae Won Jang
SJR Q2International Journal of Environmental Research and Public HealthOA

Shift work disorder (SWD), which is characterized by insomnia and excessive sleepiness related with shift work, is one of the most common health problems in shift workers. Shift work disorder causes insomnia, fatigue, worse work performance, an increased likelihood of accidents, and a poor quality of life. In addition, SWD is associated with decreased productivity and increased economic costs. The correct management of SWD is important to prevent sleep disturbances and maintain work performance

Detection of Pre-invasive Endobronchial Tumors with D-light/Autofluorescence System
Tae Won Jang, Chul Ho Oak, Bong Kwon Chun, Mann Hong Jung
SJR Q2Journal of Korean Medical ScienceOA

Autofluorescence bronchoscopy (AFB) is one of the newly developed diagnostic tools to detect the pre-cancerous lesions in the bronchial tissue. The utility of DLight/AFB in the detection of pre-cancerous lesions was compared to the standard white light bronchoscopy (WLB). In 113 patients (male 106, female 7), who visited hospital for evaluation of lung cancer, WLB and AFB were done and 364 biopsy specimens were obtained from November 2001 to August 2002. The bronchoscopic findings on WLB and AFB
