15One-fourths of the patients have medication-resistant seizures and require seizure detection and treatment continuously to cope with sudden seizures. Seizures can be detected by monitoring the brain and muscle activities, heart rate, oxygen level, artificial sounds, or visual signatures through EEG, EMG, ECG, motion, or audio/video recording on the human head and body. In this article, we first discuss recent advances in seizure sensing, signal processing, time- or frequency-domain analysis, and
[Purpose] This study examines how difference in sandy ground between firm ground influences the effects of gait training in patients with chronic stroke. [Subjects and Methods] A total of 28 patients with chronic stroke were evenly divided into experimental and control groups. Initial evaluation of the subjects was conducted by Timed Up & Go (TUG) and 6-Minute Walking Test (6MWT). Each patient in both groups received daily, 30-minute gait training on sandy ground and firm ground, five times each
[Purpose] The aim of this study was to examine the effect of a pelvis-concentrated exercise program and walking on the changes in body shape and foot base pressure. [Subjects and Methods] Thirty adults from K University in Busan, Republic of Korea, were randomly divided into the Swiss-ball exercise group and McKenzie exercise group, and they conducted exercise for 40 min 3 times a week for 6 weeks. [Results] Global postural system results and foot base pressure significantly decreased in both gr
[Purpose] The present study was performed to evaluate the changes in the scapular alignment, pressure pain threshold and pain in subjects with scapular downward rotation after 4 weeks of wall slide exercise or sling slide exercise. [Subjects and Methods] Twenty-two subjects with scapular downward rotation participated in this study. The alignment of the scapula was measured using radiographic analysis (X-ray). Pain and pressure pain threshold were assessed using visual analogue scale and digital
ABSTRACT: We conducted an analysis by comparing the nutritional contents of Auricularia auricula-judae(black), Auricularia polytricha and Auricularia auricula-judae (brown). In nutritional contents of three strains of Auricularia spp., four free sugars, seven organic acids and 24 amino acids were detected. Auricularia auricula-judae (black) was highly contained free sugar, organic acid and amino acid. There was the most prevalent Vitamin D 2 content in Auricularia auricula-judae (black) of Auric
It is rare to see OLT with gouty tophi in young adults. While it is challenging, the accuracy of diagnosis can be improved through history taking, MRI and arthroscopy.
This study investigated the effects of shoulder protraction exercise according to weight by examining the surface electromyography (EMG) amplitude in the serratus anterior (SA), upper trapezius (UT), and pectoralis major (PM) as well as the activity ratio of each muscle.
Purpose : This study attempts to examine the effect of the balance exercise on the unstable surfaces for the vital capacity in healthy adults. Methods : A total of 13 subjects was randomly divided into a breathing exercise training group (n=7) and a breathing and balance exercise training group (n=6). Changes in vital capacity and respiratory muscle activity were measured before and after the intervention. The intervention was performed three times a week for four weeks. Forced vital capacity (F
Background: The prolonged use of smartphones may lead to cervical posture deformities and other associated issues. Among these conditions, cervical extension type is one of the most commonly observed, characterized by increased cervical lordosis, forward head posture, and thoracic kyphosis. These biomechanical changes may lead to neck pain, a restricted range of motion (ROM), and heightened cervical muscle tone. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the impact of combining cervical stabiliza
Background: Forward head posture (FHP) is a postural alignment of the cervical vertebrae that leads to increased gravitational load on cervical segmental motions. The overhead arm lift test assesses the ability to actively dissociate and control low cervical flexion and move the shoulders through overhead flexion. Objects: The purpose of this study was to explore muscle activities in the upper trapezius (UT), serratus anterior (SA), sternocleidomastoid (SCM), and lower trapezius (LT) alongside c
Background Low back pain caused lumbopelvic instability and the passive and active stabilizing system and neural control subsystem control lumbopelvic stability. Purpose The aim of this study was to identify three-dimensional motions of pelvic and trunk during one leg standing applying the pelvic compression belt. Study design One group pre- and post-test design. Methods Twenty three healthy participants volunteered for this study. For the pre-test, their pelvic and trunk motions were measured d
Prolonged smartphone use can lead to cervical posture deformities, with cervical extension type being a common condition characterized by increased cervical lordosis, forward head posture, and thoracic kyphosis. These changes may contribute to neck pain, restricted cervical range of motion (ROM), and increased muscle tone. Additionally, cervical extension type is linked to temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction, affecting mandibular movement and muscle activity. Given the biomechanical connec
