15AIMS: Physical activity has been shown to reduce mortality in a dose-response fashion. Current guidelines recommend 500-1000 metabolic equivalent task (MET)-min per week of regular physical activity. This study aimed to compare the impact of leisure-time physical activity on mortality in primary versus secondary cardiovascular prevention. METHODS AND RESULTS: This study included a total of 131 558 and 310 240 subjects with and without cardiovascular disease (CVD), respectively, from a population
Oral hygiene care such as frequent tooth brushing and regular dental visits for professional cleaning reduced the risk of future cardiovascular events in healthy adults. This study also suggests that improved oral hygiene behaviour may modify the association between oral health and cardiovascular diseases.
In conclusion, FFR-guided SB intervention strategy resulted in good functional outcomes.
Background Studies have shown that long‐term exposure to air pollution such as fine particulate matter (≤2.5 μm in aerodynamic diameter [ PM 2.5 ]) increases the risk of all‐cause and cardiovascular mortality. To date, however, there are limited data on the impact of air pollution on specific cardiovascular diseases. This study aimed to evaluate cardiovascular effects of long‐term exposure to air pollution among residents of Seoul, Korea. Methods and Results Healthy participants with no previous
BACKGROUND: The calcineurin-mediated signaling pathway has been implicated as one of the crucial pathways in cardiac hypertrophy. However, the role of calcineurin pathway on cardiac remodeling after myocardial infarction (MI) has not been well defined. METHODS: Infarcted rats (n = 45) were randomized into calcineurin inhibitor, cyclosporin A (CsA) or vehicle groups, 3 days after MI and treated for 2 weeks (early post-MI cardiac remodeling stage), or randomized 17 days after MI and treated for 2
Nonculprit lesions in STEMI patients were more unstable at the baseline compared with those in CTO patients. During follow-up, nonculprit lesions in STEMI and CTO patients showed a distinct pattern of change; the former were stabilized in plaque composition, whereas the latter remained consistent. The diagnosis of STEMI and a large necrotic core volume were predictors of evolution to a TCFA, and new statin usage was a protective factor.
AIMS: We compared long-term clinical outcomes between patients treated with Orsiro sirolimus-eluting stent (O-SES) and those treated with durable biocompatible polymer Resolute Integrity zotarolimus-eluting stent (R-ZES). METHODS AND RESULTS: The ORIENT trial was a randomized controlled noninferiority trial to compare angiographic outcomes between O-SES and R-ZES. We performed a post hoc analysis of 3-year clinical outcomes and included 372 patients who were prospectively enrolled and randomly a
BACKGROUND: Clinical outcomes of new-generation drug-eluting stents (DES), Everolimus-eluting stent (EES) or Resolute zotarolimus-eluting stent (R-ZES), have been reported. However, angiographic follow-up data of new-generation DES are limited, especially in Asians. We investigated the angiographic and clinical outcomes of EES and R-ZES in a real-world setting of Korean patients. METHODS: Angiographic and clinical outcomes of 679 patients (866 lesions) who had been treated with EES or R-ZES from
