Intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (iCCA) is an aggressive primary liver malignancy with an increasing incidence worldwide. Recently, histopathologic classification of small duct type and large duct type iCCA has been introduced. Both these types of tumors exhibit differences in clinicopathological features, mutational profiles, and prognosis. Small duct type iCCA is composed of non-mucin-producing cuboidal cells, whereas large duct type iCCA is composed of mucin-producing columnar cells, reflectin
BACKGROUND & AIMS: Intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (iCCA) is a heterogeneous entity with diverse aetiologies, morphologies and clinical outcomes. Recently, histopathological distinction of cholangiolocellular differentiation (CD) of iCCA has been suggested. However, its genome-wide molecular features and clinical significance remain unclear. METHODS: Based on CD status, we stratified iCCAs into iCCA with CD (n=20) and iCCA without CD (n=102), and performed an integrative analysis using transcrip
BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Primary liver cancers (LCs), including HCC and intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (iCCA), are derived from a common developmental lineage, conferring a molecular spectrum between them. To elucidate the molecular spectrum, we performed an integrative analysis of transcriptome profiles associated with patients' radiopathologic features. APPROACH AND RESULTS: We identified four LC subtypes (LC1-LC4) from RNA-sequencing profiles, revealing intermediate subtypes between HCC and iCCA
iCCAs with DPM pattern have different clinico-radio-pathologic and genetic characteristics compared to conventional iCCAs. Moreover, FGFR and ARID1A variants were identified. Altogether, these findings further suggest that iCCA with DPM pattern represents a specific subtype of small duct type iCCA.
LOXL2 expression represents a subgroup of HCCs with more aggressive behavior and is suggested to be a poor prognostic marker in HCC patients.
The expression of estrogen receptor alpha (ERα, encoded by ESR1) has been shown to be associated with the prognostic outcomes of patients in various cancers; however, its prognostic and mechanistic significance in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remain unclear. Here, we evaluated the expression of ERα and its association with clinicopathological features in 339 HCC patients. ERα was expressed in 9.4% (32/339) of HCCs and was related to better overall survival (OS; hazard ratio [HR] = 0.11, p = 0.
Stromal p16 expression of MC-G was significantly higher than that of normal cervix and other histological subtypes of adenocarcinoma and was associated with advanced stage, parametrial invasion, and lymphovascular invasion, reflecting the aggressive behavior of MC-G. Our observations suggest that stromal p16 expression is involved in the development and progression of MC-G.
PURPOSE: Recently, anti-programmed cell death-1/anti-programmed cell death ligand-1 (anti-PD1/L1) immunotherapy has been demonstrated for its efficacy when combined with cytotoxic chemotherapy in randomized phase 3 trials for advanced biliary tract cancer (BTC). However, no biomarker predictive of benefit has been established for anti-PD1/L1 in BTC. Here, we evaluated tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TIL) using artificial intelligence-powered immune phenotype (AI-IP) analysis in advanced BTC trea
BACKGROUND: Comparable to circumferential resection margin in rectal cancer, radial margin is a potential prognostic factor in colon cancer that has just begun to be studied. No previous studies have investigated the influence of radial margin in the context of complete mesocolic excision. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to examine the impact of radial margin on oncologic outcomes after complete mesocolic excision for colon cancer. DESIGN: We retrospectively reviewed patients with stage I to III col
PURPOSE: We aimed to investigate multimodality imaging findings of intraductal tubulopapillary neoplasms (ITPN) of the pancreas. METHODS: This study was approved by the institutional review board with waived informed consent. A total of eight patients were histopathologically diagnosed with pancreatic ITPN in a single institution over a 6-year period. The imaging findings of dynamic contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP), endoscopic ultraso
Accurate classification of well-differentiated hepatocellular neoplasms can be challenging especially in core biopsies. Prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) has been shown to highlight tumor-associated neovasculature in many nonprostatic solid tumors including hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Archived 164 hepatectomies and explants with 68 HCCs, 31 hepatocellular adenoma (HA), 24 dysplastic nodules (DN), and 42 metastases were retrieved, and pathologic parameters were evaluated.
