Ferroelectric Properties of Individual Barium Titanate Nanowires Investigated by Scanned Probe Microscopy
Wan Soo Yun, Jeffrey J. Urban, Qian Gu, Hongkun Park
SJR Q1Nano Letters

We report scanned probe investigations on the ferroelectric properties of individual single-crystalline barium titanate nanowires. We show that nonvolatile electric polarization can be reproducibly induced and manipulated on these nanowires, thereby demonstrating that nanowires as small as 10 nm in diameter retain ferroelectricity. The coercive field for polarization reversal is determined to be ∼7 kV/cm, and the retention time for the induced polarization exceeds 5 days. These nanowires should

Size-Controlled Synthesis of Machinable Single Crystalline Gold Nanoplates
Chil Seong Ah, Yong Ju Yun, Hyung Ju Park, Wan‐Joong Kim, Dong Han Ha, Wan Soo Yun
SJR Q1Chemistry of Materials

Monodispersive size-controlled gold nanoplates were synthesized with high purity from the reduction of hydrogen tetrachloroaurate by reduced amount of sodium citrate, which kinetically controls the reaction pathway, in the presence of poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP). With the insufficient addition of the reductant, the molar ratio of sodium citrate and PVP relative to hydrogen tetrachloroaurate played an important role in determining the geometric shape and size of the product. These nanoplates we

Electric Property Evolution of Structurally Defected Multilayer Graphene
Kanghyun Kim, Hyung Ju Park, Byung-Chill Woo, Kook Jin Kim, Gyu Tae Kim, Wan Soo Yun
SJR Q1Nano Letters

We report on the influence of structural disorder on the electrical properties of multilayer graphene (MLG). Exponential decreases in the conductance and transconductance with increase of defects in the MLG were observed, which could be explained by the percolation and the variable range hopping conduction. An enhancement of p-type nature with increasing disorders was considered to be the result of oxygen doping in the graphene sheets introduced by oxygen plasma. The rapid increase of low-freque

Recording neural activity from the living brain is of great interest in neuroscience for interpreting cognitive processing or neurological disorders. Despite recent advances in neural technologies, development of a soft neural interface that integrates with neural tissues, increases recording sensitivity, and prevents signal dissipation still remains a major challenge. Here, we introduce a biocompatible, conductive, and biostable neural interface, a supramolecular β-peptide-based hydrogel that a

We report on the fabrication of metal nanowires on an insulating substrate using carbon nanotubes as a new kind of mask material. By irradiating Ar+ ions of 300 eV energy on a nanotube-coated Au/Ti thin layer on a SiO2 substrate, Au/Ti nanowires were successfully formed just underneath the nanotube, indicating that the carbon nanotubes had acted as a good mask against the argon ion bombardment. The Au/Ti wire of a few nanometers in width was frequently observed among the wires of various widths.

Early diagnosis of infectious diseases is important for treatment; therefore, selective and rapid detection of pathogenic bacteria is essential for human health. We report a strategy for highly selective detection and rapid separation of pathogenic microorganisms using magnetic nanoparticle clusters. Our approach to develop probes for pathogenic bacteria, including Salmonella, is based on a theoretically optimized model for the size of clustered magnetic nanoparticles. The clusters were modified

SJR Q1Nanoscale

We fabricated a variety of reduced graphene oxide (RGO) nanoring arrays using Au@Pt nanoplates as a pattern mask. RGO nanoflakes were assembled into a 2-dimensional assembly at the water-oil interface, and then various shapes of Au@Pt nanoplates were utilized as a pattern mask in order to convert the RGO into circular, triangular, and hexagonal RGO nanorings.

SJR Q1The Plant Pathology JournalOA

Infected sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas) showing symptoms of sunken veins, stunting, mosaic, and mottling were collected from Gimje, Cochang, Iksan, and Haenam provinces in Korea. Electron microscopic (EM) observation of the infected tissue revealed rod and filamentous rod type virus particles of various lengths. Western blot analysis of the protein samples extracted from infected sweet potato and partially purified virus identified the isolates as Sweet potato feathery motile virus (SPFMV), Swee

SJR Q2Journal of NanomaterialsOA

Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) encapsulated within reconstituted phospholipid bilayers have been utilized in various bioapplications due to their improved cellular uptake without compromising their advantages. Studies have proved that clustering AuNPs can enhance the efficacy of theranostic effects, but controllable aggregation or oligomerization of AuNPs within lipid membranes is still challenging. Here, we successfully demonstrate the formation of gold nanoparticle clusters (AuCLs), supported by r
