15In DM patients, we observed a prevalence of 20.0% for any DR and 3.8% for proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR). Microalbuminuria prevalence was 19.3% and overt nephropathy prevalence was 5.5%. The risk factors of microalbuminuria were presence of hypertension; higher systolic blood pressure, serum hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c), and serum blood urea nitrogen level; as well as the presence of PDR. The risk factors of overt nephropathy were long duration of DM; high levels of HbA1c, systolic blood pre
AIMS: The involvement of cytokines in the aqueous humour is important in the development and progression of diabetic macular oedema (DMO) and macular oedema (MO) due to branch retinal vein occlusion (BRVO-MO). In this study, the concentrations of cytokines in the aqueous humour of eyes with DMO and BRVO-MO were measured and compared. METHODS: Prospective, observational case series. Aqueous samples were obtained from 18 eyes with DMO (DMO group), 12 eyes with BRVO-MO (BRVO-MO group), and 16 norma
PURPOSE: To evaluate the diagnostic ability of wide-field retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) maps with swept-source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT) for detection of preperimetric (PPG) and early perimetric glaucoma (EG). METHODS: One hundred eighty-four eyes, including 67 healthy eyes, 43 eyes with PPG, and 74 eyes with EG, were analyzed. Patients underwent a comprehensive ocular examination including red-free RNFL photography, visual field testing and wide-field SS-OCT scanning (DRI-OCT-1 A
En face imaging of SS-OCT is useful when combined with angiography in CSC for evaluating choroidal vessel dilatation at Haller's layer and to identify obscured upper layers. We identified different choroidal vessel dilatation patterns between acute and chronic CSC. These findings might be useful for pathophysiological understanding of CSC.
We determined the GCIPL thinning rates for normal and undertreated OAG and PXG eyes. Differences existed among the normal eyes and glaucoma types, with PXG progressing significantly faster than OAG.
The serial combined wide-field OCT maps integrating RNFL and GCIPL maps performed well in detecting structural progression in early glaucomatous eyes. Confirmation in an independent prospective study might provide greater confidence in this conclusion.
PURPOSE: To evaluate the rate of progressive macular ganglion cell-inner plexiform layer (GCIPL) thinning in patients with open-angle glaucoma (OAG) who had been treated with intravitreal antivascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) injection for wet age-related macular degeneration (AMD). METHODS: This study was a retrospective modified case control study with fellow eye comparison. We enrolled bilateral OAG patients who had been treated with repeated anti-VEGF injections for unilateral wet AM
We found significant morphologic changes in the ONH in both abduction and adduction and these changes were associated with AXL. Considering these morphologic changes as physical properties, it allows a better understanding of the biomechanical characteristics of the ONH.
Retromode imaging with infrared lasers is a novel imaging method which has been made possible by the newly introduced confocal scanning laser ophthalmoscope. Retromode imaging uses a laterally deviated confocal aperture with a central stop, which creates a shadow and allows deep retinal and retinal pigment epithelium changes to be visualized as pseudo-3-dimensional images. Its clinical value coupled with its simple, rapid, and noninvasive nature is increasingly appreciated. The combination of re
The patterns of progressive glaucomatous structural changes in both the peripapillary and macular areas were confirmed on the combined wide-field GPA map (GPA PanoMap). An analysis of the progression pattern using the GPA PanoMap facilitates the understanding of the spatial relation between the peripapillary and macular areas in glaucoma.
