BACKGROUND: Cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) play an important role in the induction of chemo-resistance. This study aimed to clarify the mechanism underlying CAF-mediated resistance to two tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), sorafenib and lenvatinib, and to identify a novel therapeutic target for overcoming TKI resistance in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). METHODS: We performed a systematic integrative analysis of publicly available gene expression datasets and whole-transcriptome sequencing

Purpose: Postoperative radiotherapy for breast cancer has a number of associated complications. This study examined whether supervised moderate-intensity exercise could mitigate the complications that occur during radiotherapy. Patients and Methods: Forty women were randomized before radiotherapy after various operations for breast cancer. Seventeen patients who were assigned to the exercise group performed supervised moderate-intensity exercise therapy for 50 min 3 times per week for 5 weeks. T

Journal of Korean Medical Science

We performed a retrospective review of 281 hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients with portal vein tumor thrombosis (PVTT) treated with radiation therapy (RT) between 1998 and 2008 to develop a prognostic model for those patients. Of the 281 patients, PVTT and intrahepatic main masses completely disappeared in 10 patients (3.6%), and shown a partial response in 141 patients (50.2%). The median survival was 11.6 months. Patients who had more than PR have shown significantly longer survival than

Combination treatment with MnTnHex-2-PyP and IR substantially reduced cell viability, clonogenic cell survival, and DNA damage repair and synergistically increased IR-induced apoptosis of 4T1 and B16 cells. MnTnHex-2-PyP in combination with IR caused a significant delay in growth of 4T1 and B16 xenograft tumors. MnTnHex-2-PyP dose-dependently enhanced IR-mediated production of H2O2-derived species, but not superoxide. Catalase overexpression reversed MnTnHex-2-PyP-enhanced

This study aimed to evaluate the prognostic significance of tumor regression rate according to radiation phase and histologic subtype in patients with locally advanced cervical cancer (LACC) treated with chemoradiation. We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 398 patients with FIGO stage IIB-IVA cervical cancer treated with concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) between 2001 and 2019. Tumor response was assessed using serial magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) at three time points: pre-trea

Importance: Prospective data assessing the safety of hypofractionated (40 Gy in 16 fractions) radiotherapy (RT) among patients who receive postoperative concurrent chemoradiotherapy for cervical cancer are lacking. Objective: To evaluate the acute toxic effects of hypofractionated pelvic intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) with concurrent chemotherapy among women with cervical cancer who underwent radical hysterectomy. Design, Setting, and Participants: The POHIM-CCRT (Postoperative Hypofrac

OBJECTIVE: In 2018 International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) staging system of uterine cervix cancer, size criteria of primary tumor has been revised. This study aimed to evaluate the validity of this new size criteria (<2, 2-4, and ≧4 cm) in patients who underwent radical hysterectomy and adjuvant radiation therapy (RT) for early cervical cancer. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We retrospectively examined 312 patients who underwent radical hysterectomy and adjuvant RT for early cervic

SJR Q2Japanese Journal of Clinical OncologyOA

BACKGROUND: Although the trend in radiotherapy in all cancer patients has been studied, changes in radiotherapy modalities for specific cancer types have not been reported. This study aimed to analyze radiotherapy patterns for major cancers in Korea in recent years. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We collected data from claims and reimbursement records of the Health and Insurance Review and Assessment Service from 2017 to 2020, according to initial diagnostic codes. The radiotherapy modalities for major
