15BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: The surgical outcomes of adult moyamoya disease are rarely reported. We aimed to evaluate the long-term outcomes of combined revascularization surgery in patients with adult moyamoya disease. METHODS: Combined revascularization surgery consisting of superficial temporal artery-middle cerebral artery anastomosis with encephalodurogaleosynangiosis was performed on 77 hemispheres in 60 patients. Clinical, angiographic, and hemodynamic states were evaluated retrospectively us
We introduce a new observable, "gluino m_{T2}," which is an application of the Cambridge m_{T2} variable to the process where gluinos are pair produced in a proton-proton collision and each gluino subsequently decays into two quarks and one lightest supersymmetric particle, i.e., g[over ]g[over ]-->qqchi[over ]_{1};{0}qqchi[over ]_{1};{0}. We show that the gluino m_{T2} can be utilized to measure the gluino mass and the lightest neutralino mass separately and also the 1st and 2nd generation squa
OBJECT: Moyamoya disease (MMD) is a rare cerebrovascular disease and its natural history is still unclear. The authors aimed to investigate the natural course of hemodynamically stable cases of adult MMD, with the analysis of stroke risk factors. METHODS: Two hundred forty-one patients were included in this retrospective study. One hundred sixty-six (68.9%) were female, and mean age (± SD) at first visit was 41.3 ± 12.0 years (range 18-69 years). Unilateral involvement was identified in 33 patie
We propose a scheme to assign a 4-momentum to each WIMP in new physics event producing a pair of mother particles each of which decays to an invisible weakly interacting massive particle (WIMP) plus some visible particle(s). The transverse components are given by the value that determines the event variable ${M}_{T2}$, while the longitudinal component is determined by the on-shell condition on the mother particle. Although it does not give the true WIMP momentum in general, this ${M}_{T2}$-assis
We discuss nonstandard interpretations of the 750 GeV diphoton excess recently reported by the ATLAS and CMS Collaborations which do not involve a new, relatively broad resonance with a mass near 750 GeV. Instead, we consider the sequential cascade decay of a much heavier, possibly quite narrow, resonance into two photons along with one or more additional particles. The resulting diphoton invariant mass signal is generically rather broad, as suggested by the data. We examine three specific event
Despite advancements in treating ruptured cerebral aneurysms, an aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH) is still a grave cerebrovascular disease associated with a high rate of morbidity and mortality. Based on the literature published to date, worldwide academic and governmental committees have developed clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) to propose standards for disease management in order to achieve the best treatment outcomes for aSAHs. In 2013, the Korean Society of Cerebrovascular Surge
OBJECT: Spinal vascular diseases, such as spinal dural arteriovenous fistulas (DAVFs), perimedullary arteriovenous fistulas (AVFs), and spinal arteriovenous malformations (AVMs), are very rare. The authors analyzed the features and treatment outcomes of these conditions. METHODS: Data from 64 patients were retrospectively reviewed. There were 33 spinal DAVFs (1 patient had 2 lesions), 20 perimedullary AVFs, and 12 spinal AVMs. Clinical features, radiological findings, treatment results, and clin
Kyphotic change was observed in all but one patient who underwent TL for the treatment of cervical OPLL. However, we did not find any contributing factors to kyphosis or evidence of postoperative neurological deterioration.
BACKGROUND: Artifacts introduced by stents limit the value of magnetic resonance (MR) imaging as a follow-up modality after the stent-assisted coil embolization of cerebral aneurysms. PURPOSE: To investigate the usefulness of 3 Tesla (3T) time-of-flight (TOF) MR angiography (MRA) for the follow-up evaluation. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Twenty-two aneurysms of 20 patients treated with stent-assisted coil embolization were followed up with 3T TOF MRA and digital subtraction angiography (DSA) with three
We consider the decay of a generic resonance to two visible particles and any number of invisible particles. We show that the shape of the invariant mass distribution of the two visible particles is sensitive to both the mass spectrum of the new particles, as well as the decay topology. We provide the analytical formulas describing the invariant mass shapes for the nine simplest topologies (with up to two invisible particles in the final state). Any such distribution can be simply categorized by
We investigate the possibility of measuring the top quark mass using the collider variable ${m}_{T2}$ at the CERN LHC experiment. Monte Carlo studies of ${m}_{T2}$ are performed with the events corresponding to the dilepton decays of $t\overline{t}$ produced at the LHC with $10\text{ }\text{ }{\mathrm{fb}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$ integrated luminosity. Our analysis suggests that the top quark mass can be determined by the ${m}_{T2}$ variable with a reasonable accuracy, though the precision will be de
BACKGROUND: Antiplatelet premedication is widely accepted for interventional treatment of cerebral aneurysms to prevent thromboembolism. However, antiplatelet resistance sometimes limits the effectiveness of premedication. OBJECTIVE: To compare 2 groups administered low-dose prasugrel (PSG group) or clopidogrel-based tailored antiplatelet (CPG group) in terms of platelet function and procedure-related complications. METHODS: A total of 411 patients with 505 unruptured aneurysms who underwent end
The search for light stops is of paramount importance, both in general as a promising path to the discovery of beyond the standard model physics and more specifically as a way of evaluating the success of the naturalness paradigm. While the LHC experiments have ruled out much of the relevant parameter space, there are “stop gaps”, i.e., values of sparticle masses for which existing LHC analyses have relatively little sensitivity to light stops. We point out that techniques involving on-shell con
