이원재 교수 연구실은 곤충 모델인 Drosophila를 통해 장내 미생물과 숙주의 상호작용 메커니즘을 규명하고 있습니다. 주로 장내 미생물이 숙주의 대사, 발달, 신진대사 및 장간세포 활성에 미치는 영향을 조절하는 분자적 기전, 특히 PQQ-ADH 효소 활성과 dDuox를 통한 산화적 면역 반응, 그리고 Caudal 유전자에 의한 미생물 공존 조절 메커니즘을 중심으로 연구합니다. 또한, 과산화수소 및 호클로르산(HOCl)과 같은 산화물이 면역 반응에서 어떻게 조절되며, 이로 인해 생기는 생리적 영향과 병리적 결과를 분석하고 있습니다.
