PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of chronic epithelial scrape injury on corneal morphology. METHODS: The corneal epithelia in one eye of 8-week-old New Zealand White rabbits were scraped at weekly intervals. Central corneal thickness was measured by ultrasonic pachymetry before epithelial scrape each week. Control never wounded (C), chronic wounded with scrape the last week (W), and chronic wounded without scrape the last week (WW) corneas were processed for histolog

SJR Q3The Journal of Nervous and Mental DiseaseOA

Previous studies have indicated that obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is associated with alexithymic traits. The purpose of the current study was to evaluate the difference of alexithymia in OCD patients and healthy controls. This study was also designed to elucidate a specific link between certain OCD symptom dimensions and alexithymia. Forty-five patients with OCD and 45 healthy controls completed measures of the OCD symptom severity, alexithymia, anxiety, and depression. Patients with OCD

SJR Q1Diabetes CareOA

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the risk of incident dementia according to fasting glucose levels and presence of comorbidities. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS: Using a health insurance claims database and the results of biennial health examinations in South Korea, we selected 8,400,950 subjects aged ≥40 years who underwent health examinations in 2009-2010. We followed them until 2016. Subjects' baseline characteristics were categorized by presence of diabetes (yes/no) and glycemic status as normoglycemi

Factors Associated with Insomnia among the Elderly in a Korean Rural Community

SJR Q2Psychiatry InvestigationOA

We found that sex, education, chronic disease, and depression independently increase the risk of insomnia of the elderly in a Korean rural community. To overcome the elderly's insomnia, interventions should target modifiable factors such as depression. To promote active aging, longitudinal studies of factors associated with insomnia among the elderly should be performed in different regions and communities.

SJR Q1Scientific ReportsOA

Disturbed sleep is the most common effect of shift work. A large corpus of research indicates an association between sleep disturbance and depressive symptom in shift workers. In this study, we proposed the mediating role of grey matter (GM) structure in the relationship between sleep disturbance and depressive symptom. We collected structural MRI (sMRI) data as well as assessing the level of sleep disturbance and depressive symptom with the Pittsburgh Sleep disturbance Index and Zung Self-Ratin

AIM: A social network, which is a set of people connected through socially meaningful relationships, is considered protective for neurocognitive disorders. Men and women have been found to have different opportunities for social participation and it is possible social networks do not form the same way. We hypothesized, male and female social networks would have different protective influences on cognitive function. METHODS: The Korean Social Life, Health, and Aging Project, a cohort study involv

Objectives Diffusion tensor image analysis along the perivascular space (DTI-ALPS) is a recently introduced method for the assessment of the glymphatic system without the need for contrast injection. The purpose of our study was to assess the glymphatic system in cognitively normal older adults with or without subjective cognitive decline (SCD) using DTI-ALPS, and correlating with amyloid PET. Design and participants To evaluate the glymphatic system in cognitively normal older adults using DTI-

SJR Q1Alzheimer s Research & TherapyOA

Abstract Background Subjective cognitive decline (SCD) is a target for Alzheimer’s disease prediction. Plasma amyloid-beta oligomer (AβO), the pathogenic form of Aβ in blood, has recently been proposed as a novel blood-based biomarker of AD prediction by representing brain Aβ deposition. The relationship between plasma AβO, brain Aβ deposition, and SCD in individuals with normal objective cognition has not been investigated. Methods In this cross-sectional study, we analyzed 126 participants wit

BACKGROUND: With the increase in the world's aging population, there is a growing need to prevent and predict dementia among the general population. The availability of national time-series health examination data in South Korea provides an opportunity to use deep learning algorithm, an artificial intelligence technology, to expedite the analysis of mass and sequential data. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to compare the discriminative accuracy between a time-series deep learning algorithm and conve
