15The unique physical and chemical properties of spinels have made them highly suitable electrocatalysts in oxygen evolution reaction and oxygen reduction reaction (OER & ORR). Zinc–air batteries (ZABs), which are safer and more cost-effective power sources than commercial lithium-ion batteries, hinge on ORR and OER. The slow kinetics of the air electrode reduce its high theoretical energy density and specific capacity, which limits its practical applications. Thus, tuning the performance of t
In the development of hydrogen-based technology, a key challenge is the sustainable production of hydrogen in terms of energy consumption and environmental aspects. However, existing methods mainly rely on fossil fuels due to their cost efficiency, and as such, it is difficult to be completely independent of carbon-based technology. Electrochemical hydrogen production is essential, since it has shown the successful generation of hydrogen gas of high purity. Similarly, the photoelectrochemical (P
A universal increase in energy consumption and the dependency on fossil fuels have resulted in increasing severity of global warming, thus necessitating the search of new and environment-friendly energy sources. Hydrogen is as one of the energy sources that can resolve the abovementioned problems. Water splitting promotes ecofriendly hydrogen production without the formation of any greenhouse gas. The most common process for hydrogen production is electrolysis, wherein water molecules are separa
Abstract Here we study single-crystalline silicon nanobeams having 470 nm width and 80 nm thickness cross section, where we produce tortuous thermal paths ( i . e . labyrinths) by introducing slits to control the impact of the unobstructed “line-of-sight” (LOS) between the heat source and heat sink. The labyrinths range from straight nanobeams with a complete LOS along the entire length to nanobeams in which the LOS ranges from partially to entirely blocked by introducing slits, s = 95, 195, 245
The demand for developing high-efficiency multifunctional electrocatalysts with a long-term stability rapidly increases for achieving the commercialization of sustainable hydrogen (H2) production via cost-effective water electrolysis systems. This study describes single-phase metal-rich nickel phosphide (Ni12P5)-incorporated carbon composites for a highly efficient water-splitting system. The distinct Ni12P5 is anchored in nitrogen (N)- and phosphorus (P)-rich carbon matrices (Ni12P5@N,P-C); the
The large temperature gradients experienced by thermoelectric modules induce significant thermal stresses which eventually lead to device failure. The impact of thermal cycling on a commercial thermoelectric module is investigated through characterization of the electrical properties. In this work, we measure the evolution of the thermoelectric and electrical properties with thermal cycling. One side of the thermoelectric module is cycled between 30oC and 160°C every 3 minutes while the other si
The level of current ISMS in the hospitals evaluated was determined to be insufficient. Establishment of adequate ISMS is necessary to ensure patient privacy and the safe use of medical records for various purposes. Implementation of ISMS which meet international standards with a long-term and comprehensive perspective is of prime importance. To reflect the requirements of the varied interests of medical staff, consumers, and institutions, the establishment of political support is essential to c
Despite extensive studies on thermal transport in thin silicon films, there has been little work studying the thermal conductivity of single-crystal rectangular, cross-sectional nanobeams that are commonly used in many applications such as nanoelectronics (FinFETs), nano-electromechanical systems, and nanophotonics. Here, we report experimental data on the thermal conductivity of silicon nanobeams of a thickness of ∼78 nm and widths of ∼65 nm, 170 nm, 270 nm, 470 nm, and 970 nm. The experimental
Thermal conduction in complex periodic nanostructures remains a key area of open questions and research, and a particularly provocative and challenging detail is the impact of nanoscale material volumes that do not lie along the optimal line of sight for conduction. Here, we experimentally study thermal transport in silicon nanoladders, which feature two orthogonal heat conduction paths: unobstructed line-of-sight channels in the axial direction and interconnecting bridges between them. The nano
Interfaces dominate heat conduction in nanostructured systems, and much work has focused on methods to enhance interfacial conduction. These approaches generally address planar interfaces, where the heat flux vector is everywhere normal to the interface. Here, we explore a nanostructured interface geometry that uses nonplanar features to enhance the effective interfacial conductance beyond what is possible with planar interfaces. This interface consists of interdigitating Al pillars embedded wit
Metal-oxide thermal boundary conductance (TBC) strongly influences the temperature rise in nanostructured systems, such as dense interconnects, when its value is comparable to the thermal conductance of the amorphous dielectric oxide. However, the thermal characterization of metal-amorphous oxide TBC is often hampered by the measurement insensitivity of techniques such as time-domain thermoreflectance (TDTR). Here, we use metal nanograting structures as opto-thermal transducers in TDTR to measur
